January 30 I am so ready for the weekend...and it's here!![]() As much as I love my job I am so ready for the weekend. I haven't made any plans. Sometimes that's a good idea, then other times I'm liable to let it just slip away not really getting anything done. The only thing on my agenda, that I know of, is to find or compose a devotion for a church Session meeting due Thursday. I don't want to be struggling the last minute or during the week trying to find something so that will be my task to accomplish. I'm thinking of just doing some light work, picking/straightening up and cleaning the floors. I may tackle some of the clutter in the basement. I'd much rather call it the "dungeon" it is a gathering place of all that "good" stuff that we either use seasonal like Christmas decorations and gardening stuff. Much of it is stuff we are hanging on either for one of the kids or "may use someday". Then there is the stuff that's too good to throw out but we really don't need or use. Instead of a junk drawer or closet we are "blessed" with a full basement!
![]() This is 30 years of collecting. Now when I was growing up we didn't have this problem. My dad was in the air force...yeah, I'm an "air force brat" ha ha. We moved quite often, about every two years so the stuff we no longer used didn't move with us. We lived in a house only once during those years the rest were apartments. If we were lucky there was a storage unit in the complex but that was small enough that things could only multiply so far. Not so today. We are lucky to have this extra storage space...yeah right. It's become so bad that I often wake early thinking of where to put what or give away where or just toss. Please don't mention "yard sale". I've been there and the time it takes to gather and organize everything to sell at give away prices is just not worth the trouble. Clothes I can take in to a couple of chain stores that have bins just for clothes but for the rest of the stuff I don't know. Much of it is Paul's territory so unless I chain him to the basement I find it hard to sort through without him with me.
![]() Okay ....stop now Faye, most people probably got bored and aren't reading this blabbering any longer. This is how my mind functions after a weeks work with some poor nights sleep. I might have come up with a more interesting blog if I'd have waited 'til I was well rested on Saturday morning.
I'll let it rest now and just wish you all a great restful weekend! January 25 A new week and back to normal....![]() Well this week will bring me back on schedule...with the wake and funeral midweek I couldn't get on track but after an uneventful Saturday and lazy Sunday this should be a normal week...well wants normal for me anyway...lol. There was no graveside service as the ground is froze like a rock and the cemetery is covered deep in snow. So the family will have to bear more grief come spring when Joyce will be buried.
![]() Saturday I cleaned the house, caught up on my blog walking and did some on-line reviewing of my ASL. I don't think I'll ever get it down pat and be able to communicate in sign language, I really need to take a more in-depth course and have someone to practice with on a daily bases.
![]() My son has encouraged me to get moving again on the treadmill before work. Today was the 3rd day. Friday I didn't have to be to work 'til 9 and I didn't work Sat. or Sun. so I was able to get on the treadmill. Monday will be the same as Friday but Tues., Wed., and Thursday I have to be at work at 8. Since I'm with the public those days I also have to shower and dress and makeup. I don't think I am strong enough to give up my morning tea and computer time to adapt unless I rise another hour earlier but that would make rising about 5 am instead of 6...ugh
![]() Today was a lazy day, begin by surprising myself and not waking 'til almost 7 am. After a spell at the computer I went to church, had lunch then topped it off with a nice afternoon nap. Now I am back to a cup of tea and writing a late Sunday blog. I really need the nap on Sunday as since I'm an "early to bed, early to rise" person I "have" to stay up to watch Desperate Housewives! We are on a later time zone than most people. DH starts here at 10 and isn't over 'til 11, past my regular bedtime. I don't watch much TV but this one I'm addicted to along with Ghost Whisperer and Survivor. Usually I am reading when Paul is watching his shows...CSI, Without a Trace etc. I am aware enough to sometimes watch parts of them but don't turn the TV when he isn't home, just bury my nose in a book. Which reminds me that I'm out of reading material and will have to make a visit to the local library tomorrow evening. The last book I read had only a one week lone "The Shack". There was a long wait for this book, I have been on the waiting list since last summer!
Hope you had a great weekend and ....
![]() January 17 Sad news in the family this morning![]() I was settled into my usual Saturday morning routine: I had my morning cup of tea and was just settling in to catch up on my blog walking. I only got as far as visiting Sherry when the phone rang early this morning. My brother in law, Freddie, (it's his boat that he takes us out mackerel jigging in the summer if you recall my stories) called in tears his wife, Joyce passed away just an hour earlier. His sister in law Brenda (wife to his other brother Larry who died just 3 years ago Jan. 14) was staying there for the night as she often does since her husband passed away. Well Joyce called her to help her to the bathroom then since she has been sick for many years with breathing problems asked for her mask. Joyce then just collapsed. One son lives with them but the other son, who is with the fire department arrived with the first response. He performed CPR on her but by then it was too late. We arrive as soon as we could (we had to give the car a boost to get it started in this extreme cold). When we arrived the police were there. Shortly after the funeral home arrive and took Joyce away. We stayed until Terry and his family arrived. A snow storm is forecast for Monday so though arrangements aren't made yet we are looking at Tuesday or possibly Wednesday for the funeral.
Like I said in my last blog "boring is good". This is one thing that happens when boring isn't happening. I may be around later, I'm kind of set off schedule for a Saturday morning as you can imagine.
This is a picture of Freddie in the summer during a happier occasion:
![]() January 15 BRRR!!![]() Yeap...we are in a deep freeze as is much of the northern hemisphere! It's going to stay like this until Monday. Today it's -17C (-1.3F) and feels like -28C (-18F). BRR!! I'm glad I got a nice warm jacket, it's going to be a cold walking to work this morning.
I need to get a life. I am excited because we are getting a new Pepsi cooler for the store this morning...isn't that pitiful?
![]() Tonight we have a church meeting and I'm called on to do the devotion. Yesterday I got my hair cut, it's a bit shorter than I'd like.
O.K. I'll cut this short and save you the pain of my boring week. Boring can be good I guess, it's a rest from problems that can occur or rushing around with too much on my agenda.
Have a great rest-of-the-week and keep warm!
Hugs, Faye January 10 Another week gone by...back to normal![]() So Christmas is all over, tree down and all but my three wise-men are packed away. I leave them up until after Epiphany, January 12th. Which reminds me I "volunteered" to do the devotion for our church Session meeting on Thursday, rather than compose one I'm going to search for something about Epiphany. I a bit nervous as we have a new minister I haven't met yet. He's full time but only temporary until the committee finds a permanent one. Our church building is coming along great...we plan to move in the first of February.
It's nice to have things back to "normal", as the commercial says "whatever your normal is".
Orders were placed and arrived on schedule at work. Last Sunday morning we took stock. After letting stock deplete for this annual chore my orders this week were a little larger than normal but nothing overwhelming.
Tuesday my Sign Language class resumed. It was last March since we had any class and I don't have anyone to sign with through the year so most was forgotten. Only two of us came back for our second year. There are 13 in the class this year. He was planning on having two classes but with only us two we will just have the one. That's O.K. as I need to go over it all again to imprint it in my memory better. This is the only Community School activity I took. I love the course but have enough interests inside the home that I've neglected as it is without adding anything new. I really would like to give me a push/kick and start painting again.
Sick of winter already and we have just only begun January. It will be a long time before the snow/ice is gone from the gardens and beach, so I'll just have to endure it if I continue to live in the Maritimes. Summer is like heaven here so i have all the fun in the sun to look forward to.
Great news, Chad and Adina were/are looking at buying a home in PEI! They hate it in northern BC and with a year experience in their chosen fields they shouldn't have much problem both finding jobs. I'm was surprised they picked the Island to settle down in as Adina's family is in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
Well that's about it...I am so far behind in visiting...got to finish blog walking before daylight tells me it's also time to get this house straightened up after a week of neglect!
Lots of hugs to everyone and hope all is well in your corner of the world!
January 03 2008 -2009: Rewind
It has been a very busy over the holidays with kids coming & going. Chad & Adina arrived on the 27th along with my daughters. We had a great visit. We went bowling together along with Dad and Megan's BF, Stephen. Then we out to eat after. It was great fun, glad none of us took our scores seriously as they were for the most part pretty bad! Everyone is gone now, though Chad & Adina had a long stay at the Halifax airport due to delays cause by poor weather. We got a major snow storm, a blizzard with high winds and lots of snow on Thursday into Thursday night. Our road wasn't plowed until almost noon. The store couldn't open until then anyway 'cause my bosses couldn't even get out. No more snow in the short term forcast so that's great, gives everyone a chance to get dug out. Many blogging friends have taken on to copy the past year, either using the first sentence or paragraph of the first day of each month. What follows is my year in review doing just that: (The first of January this year looks like a repeat of Jan. 2008!)
January I am still here...never got lost in the snow. This week the temperatures are to get above freezing. Though rain is rather depressing it will help along with the temps to get rid of some of this white stuff. It's getting so hard to shovel as the banks are getting higher every time I shovel. We haven't had snow, well any amount since the two storms, one Monday and another on Wednesday. The plows are still busy trying to widen the roads. Your life is at risk, seriously, for those on foot as there is absolutely no sidewalk or "side of the road" to travel. I don't think I could jump the banks if two cars met! The sidewalks here are plowed but still aren't quite cleared for good walking. It was so funny last night...Homer and I went to the store...coming home on the corner house was a dog (tied up) it was barking at us and Homer of course had to put in his two cents...but he had to stand on his hind legs to peek over to get a view of the other dog! Homer is a good size dog too, part Husky/Shepherd/Collie. FebruarySo glad it is Saturday! I had a bit of a problem with my church job this week. This began on Wednesday at noon. Although we hadn't the power outage that much of the Island experienced this week, many lost their power on Monday and a few thousand still haven't had it restored by last night. Right at 12 noon on Wednesday our power went off. It remained so for 3 1/2 hours. This first made me late going to do my office job at the church. No sense as all I can do involved the photocopier and computer. So as soon as the power came back on I headed to Murray River to the church. I guess there was a problem with the electric pole before the outage. A line broke and caused power surges throughout the building. March Well here is an update on last night: Paul and I drove to Montague and got the pizzas at Greco; five party pizza and two donair pizza. (They do deliver but we are outside the deliver range) The kids were back from their skate when we arrived all hyped up from skating and waiting for the pizza to arrive. Last year we were short on pizza but their were a few pieces left even after the parents and teachers had enough. Lots of chips and sweets were also brought or left by parents and others to keep them happy for the evening.
April We had a very nice service last night. It was nice though to get home and relax. Paul took of for a game of cards with his friends, his way of relaxing and I got into some comfy clothes and settled down for the evening with a book and a glass of wine. At 9 I watched a new episode of "Ghost Whisperer" then finished my book by 11. After that I snuggled into bed and shut off all alarms. I didn't get up 'til after 7 am which is sleeping in for me. Now I feel all rested. May Our house has been like a revolving door this past two weeks. We rarely see the kids now Megan was here for two nights when Stephen was away, then after one night in her own place she spent another night, only because it snowed and the roads were slushy and icy. Then Krista came out for one night while she spent her "holidays" sick with the shingles. Krista is back to work and feeling much better. Last night Megan and her boyfriend, Stephen came. They, along with Paul, are helping Freddie, Paul's brother, with "setting day". Yes it's lobster season again! I am dog sitting for Megan & Stephen and doing her laundry. It has been raining all week but at least it's not as cold and rain is better than snow! We never use the dryer anymore, except when Megan comes with hers. So I figured I might as well do them now than her rushing to get them done when she gets back this afternoon. I'm leaving mine 'til the weekend when it will be warm and sunny and I can hang them out. I'm leaving mine 'til the weekend when it will be warm and sunny and I can hang them out. June You just can't trust the weather forecast anymore. I was all set to get the house cleaned, reading, paperwork done....then out of the blue....what was supposed to be a nice rainy day...turned out warm, dry and almost sunny. Drats! So I was forced to grab my gardening basket, shovel and kneeling pad and head out to the yard to transplant and dig weeds all day. Paul also felt inclined to mow the grass and plant the vegetable garden. (He looks after the vegetable garden and baskets/planters of annuals...I do perennials and bushes) July I told Paul that there will be no more volunteering this summer except for previous commitments, posters for our Ceilidhs and some behind the scenes artwork or ideas for Vacation Bible School. I said there are lots or younger mom's (30ish) that are also creative and they can do it to. I feel bad and selfish but there comes a time to say "no" doesn't there? Before I know it summer (where's our summer weather?) will be over and I'll be back to teaching Sunday School and church meetings. August In the summer the younger families with kids rarely make it to church. Sunday their was one 4 year old girl, Madison and her 2 year old brother. The minister, during children's time was talking about rainbows etc. You can tell when Madison is thinking hard about something from the way she squints her eyebrows and purses her lips. She was doing this Sunday. It was so cute to hear her announce her interpretation of why it rains: September So far work is going good. I enjoyed my first day at the store. I have so much to re-learn and learn but I love it. Just trying to figure in my head the quickest, easiest way and time to get the bulletins done for the church since I promised I'd continue volunteering to do them until Christmas October I was laying in bed, much too early this morning, thinking of our trip to town. I am in desperate need of some decent clothes and warm sweaters etc. My part time jobs I could just wear about anything but since I am working with the public five days a week I just don't have enough of clothes that aren't stained, too big or shabby. It was fine before when I just needed a couple outfits for church and the very occasional social gathering or what have you. November Well Hallowe'en is over and now it is November. Time to think about the coming winter and Christmas. Time has slipped by so fast. Gone are the long summer days, gone the beauty of the leaves changing. Mornings are dark when I get up, no heading to the beach to hunt for sea glass early before work. Paul has much of our winter wood stacked on the back deck. There maybe a few milder days I might get some gardening done but it doesn't look like I'll finish cleaning up the beds. It's getting much too cold most days. The building that we move last spring just days before the last snow is still to be fixed up to use. Paul has now begun to put in the floor boards that had to be ripped out to detach it from it's foundation. When he finishes this we'll be able to move some of his tools and plywood etc. into it. Then I can begin to de-clutter the junk and get it more organized. December O.K...I haven't been on spaces for a couple days and they change things all around! After my initial "What the ...!" I think of one of my old favourite T.V. shows Lost in Space. I feel I'm really lost in spaces. I just don't have time to orient myself to all these sudden changes. For one thing I have so many more steps to just get to my blog let alone everyone else's! And "Home" is not the home I'm used to. Another thing I just can't open other blogs in a new window. They made changes before and I finally caught on but this seems so much more complicated. I'm like a mouse in a maze! |
