October 25 Busy SaturdayIt's Saturday and my day is already planned out. I've prepared for today by getting some of the housework out of the way earlier in the week. Thursday after work, before I got into my routine of vegetating on the couch I swept and scrubbed the floors. Yesterday morning I woke up very early and instead of blog walking (sorry) I cleaned up the kitchen counters, stove, polished up the appliances wiped down spills and fingerprints on the cupboards before heading out to work for the day.
![]() I was asked to make the creepy, ghoulish stuff for tonight's community Hallowe'en party as I did last year. Paul had supper all ready when I got home. He was busy in the kitchen making sweets for our bi-weekly Ceilidh while I whipped up a jello-jiggles "heart", a cauliflower "brain", red dyed spaghetti "intestines", some old pottery pieces I found while beach combing for "teeth", some "hair", a carrot "finger", flour filled vinyl glove "hand", grape skinned "eyes" and a couple figs for "ears. If I left this 'til the morning I'd have no time left for my other plans. So these are all ready to deliver to the community centre today.
![]() At 10 am a group of church members are gathering to sweep and pick up lumber scraps at the construction site of our new church. Inside work will begin next week so this needs to be done and I want to be involved. This is an exciting adventure our church has been planning for years and is quickly becoming a reality.
![]() (this picture was taken last week, it's much farther along, I'll get new pictures today)
The there is a nice low tide this afternoon and the weather is to be clear, sunny and seasonally warm for October. So I plan to take Homer and head to the beach as there will be very few days left before the cold winter sets in and I'll have to set this past-time aside 'til the spring.
Now that Paul and his friends, our neighbours will be putting their golf clubs aside soon also due to the colder weather they have decided to start bowling on Saturday evenings. This I'll enjoy though it has been many, many years since I have bowled. Paul called the bowling alley in Montague (a half hour drive away) and set an early hour of 7pm to suit me so I can get to bed at a reasonable time for me.
![]() Last but on the top of my list was having time this morning to make a new blog. I'm getting this written in between laundry loads. I got new curtains from the "Old General Store" last Sunday as the owner was having a special sale before closing for the season. Megan profited by getting my old ones for her new apartment. My new ones are and inch or two too long. Since they are 100% cotton I'm hoping washing them will shrink them enough to avoid having to hem them up.
Hope your weekend is off to a great start in your corner of the world!
![]() October 18 Enjoy your weekend!![]() Well the weekend is here. Thanksgiving (in Canada) is over, the election (in Canada) is over. Now I can get down to thinking about fall projects. My "to do" list for the weekend is growing but of course time will only permit me to get a limited amount done. I don't get much of anything done through the week as I'm a morning person. Come the evening after a day of work I'm not much good for anything. It was nice to wake up this morning to find my night-time elf had cleaned up the supper dishes, emptied the dishwasher and even cleaned the sink! It's so nice to be married to a night owl. Thanks Paul.
I have to get posters made this weekend. One - for our community Ceilidh and another for our "Annual Church Turkey and Roast Beef Dinner". There is laundry to do (started) a house to clean (never ending) a garden begging to be looked after. The tide is low this morning but if I go to the beach I'll greatly limit the time to get all the other stuff done. Besides my table in the spare room is cluttered with sea-glass from previous excursions that need to be sorted into bottles before I knock them all on the floor and make a terrible mess. I did get out one day after work. I might get out to the shore tomorrow before church if the weather is fine. We'll see.
So I have lots of "plans" for my weekend, that can change by the hour. Well I thought I better write what is now becoming only a weekly blog. Through the week, before work, I have been using my computer time to try and visit all of you. Hope I didn't miss anyone, I keep a check off list so I can try to visit everyone at least once a week, though I wish it were more often!
Nothing noteworthy happened during the week. Just a regular work week. Hope you all enjoy your weekend!
October 12 Happy Thanksgiving Canada!![]() Hope all my Canadian friends have a wonderful, blessed Thanksgiving Day!
We are having our turkey dinner Monday evening instead of today. Chad & Adina won't be here, Krista works at 5 pm but I work until 5 pm so if I'm to be there Krista won't or the other way around. Megan will be coming out and bringing Rossignol Wine from our local winery. Not sure if Stephen will be able to come or not. Dad will definitely be here no matter what day or time. Our New Hampshire friends arrived for a weeks visit yesterday so they will be coming as a couple of friends that came with them. So that makes eight or nine at the table and two under the table if they can manage not being band from the room (Ayla and Homer).
![]() I was out this morning trying to do some deadheading in the flower beds but my fingers were so cold even with gloves on I had to come in. It's just 5'C (41'F). This afternoon it will warm up to 14'C (57'F). Yesterday was a really nice day. After getting the main living quarters looking much better, (as nothing was done since I started working at the store a month ago!) and Paul left to go golfing, Homer and I took one of our infrequent now trips to the beach. Met many out on the warm sunny Saturday afternoon. So most of the sea-glass I found was small but last night when I put them under the black light it revealed I found 3 nice pieces of "Vaseline" glass. (These have uranium in them so they glow a bright yellow-green under the light. More on Vaseline glass.
Here are pictures of what I had before yesterday:
Last weeks shopping spree went well. I actually found one pair of cords and two pairs of jeans out of cart load of 9 pairs. These were all at Zellers so the price was good too. I also got many tops between Zellers, Walmart and remembered my gift card this time, found a nice black jacket at Reitmans. This will make a nice addition to the two pairs of dress pants I got last time I was there (when I forgot my card).
The sun is beginning to lengthen so by the time we get home from church the frost will be gone and the temps will be nice for more garden work and planting the last 40 some bulbs to replace the many tulips and daffodils that had died out.
Have a great day and hope your week is filled with blessings and joy!
, FayeOctober 04 Early Saturday morning![]() I was laying in bed, much too early this morning, thinking of our trip to town. I am in desperate need of some decent clothes and warm sweaters etc. My part time jobs I could just wear about anything but since I am working with the public five days a week I just don't have enough of clothes that aren't stained, too big or shabby. It was fine before when I just needed a couple outfits for church and the very occasional social gathering or what have you.
We were leaving around 10 am. So as I lay there (this was just after 4am) I said to myself "If I get up now I can make a new blog, do a bit of blog walking and get some cleaning done before I have to get cleaned up for a day in town". The next thing I realize that a light was shinning outside the bedroom. First I figured it was Stephen or Megan but then remembered that they moved out a week ago. Well I thought "Someone is in the house". This got me up. Well someone was not home...but a light in the hall that comes on when the power goes off was on. Shoot! I could have made a good cup of tea instead of laying in bed thinking. Well since I was awake (I guess you figured out the power came back on eventually 'cause I am here blogging now) I decided to stay up.
![]() I threw on some clothes and trudged down to the basement with a flashlight...got a fire going. Now usually I am well prepared if I think the power may go off. This time it was blowing hard but last night it didn't cross my mind at all to run off water. There is no snowstorm, heavy rain or hurricane, and it wasn't blowing that much last night. Well we have about 1/2 doz small bottles of water so I got enough to fill the kettle. After an hour of waiting and reading by a lantern, the kettle was singing. I didn't even get my tea poured when the power came back on. So now I am happy sitting here blogging with a hot cup of tea with the "civilized" sound of our clothes churning in the washer.
Ayla, my not quite six month old kitten, was spayed this week and got a clean bill of health. This cost me a lot more than it did years ago but will be worth it. We just never got around to getting the last two cats done, well mainly because clothing three kids, school supplies etc. cost enough so there wasn't any extra back then. By the time we could afford it both cats were well over 10 years old. It will be great not to have any unwanted kittens and no howling day and night trying to keep her in when she would have come in heat. My last cat, Shadow, had to be put down a bit more than a year ago as she had breast cancer. I read in the pamphlet sent home with Alya that a spayed female cat is much less liable to get "mammary cancer" I didn't know that before.
![]() We have the car all packed tight with Megan's bureau that didn't fit in her car and some other stuff she left behind. We'll take this into her apartment today. Hopefully the remaining stuff will fit in her car when she comes by Sunday. Then I'll get the basement room cleaned and stuff put back in. I also plan to move my treadmill down there as it's quite crowded in the upstairs room with my painting stuff, Paul's weaving loam and other craft stuff. We have too much "stuff" but some is too hard to part with don't you find?
Well hope I find what I want/need in clothing today. A few bargains would be nice. Also to get some jeans that fit well without trying on the whole store of jeans first would be nice. I love nice fitting, attractive jeans but dread the chore of trying one after another on to find a couple that fit me in all the right places.
![]() I have skinny legs and thighs but child bearing hips and thick waist. And of course I don't want a "waist" that comes up to my armpits or almost down to my crotch. It's hard to get jeans that aren't made for the young teen or the old lady. I guess being over 50 many would consider me "old" but I don't feel old nor do I want to look old and frumpy either and I definately don't want to look foolish in the super young styles.
Hope you are having a great weekend! |
