11月24日 Saturday![]() Hope you are having a great weekend. So far things have been relaxing, no work or stress. I did the laundry, tidied the house and made a sample craft for tomorrows Sunday School craft. If nothing comes up unexpected I hope to begin a sketch for a new painting. I haven't done a thing since last spring! I heard on CBC radio when I was driving to work the other day that painting along with using other artistic skill will protect or manufacture brain cells as we get older. Even a woman with Alzhiemers was able to paint though when she was shown some of her paintings she couldn't remember painting them but did enjoy doing them and did well.
![]() O.K. ....I am back again and now it is early Saturday evening! I was trying to search for the piece I spoke about and then things froze up on me and I couldn't continue...grr. Anyway I did all the disk-clean up, check for adware, virus any old thing I knew/had to try to speed up the computor. It's time for my daughter's BF to come and give it a once over.
I probably downloaded something not good for the computor...
Well I did get a sketch done of an old out house (from the same outing and lot I got the big old tree from last fall). Then I spent ages trying to get it on the canvas. Then cleaned up the old paint on my pallet...it sure drys hard after six months. After that I decided to put on the basecoat. It sure looks amateur (well I am really anyway) but I guess that's how I feel once I start all the paintings I've done so far. If I was using water paints I'd sure be in trouble but that's the nice thing with oil paint I can go over any boo-boo's.
I've got three book, only one started due at the library tomorrow so I think I'll head to the couch for a spell at reading. No..I won't be reading all three tonight...haha...I'll just renew the one I'm reading and possibly the other two.
Have a great Sunday anyway since Saturday is near over.
![]() 11月15日 Beach Bags and Sea Glass![]() ![]() So what do you think when you think of a beach bag?
![]() Maybe this?
![]() Or possibly this?
Well this morning when I asked Homer if he wanted to come to the beach with me when I was almost ready, just tying on my sneakers...with a low tide at 7:08.... and the sunrise at 7:09...I said to him as we were about to head out the door..."Just wait I have to get my beach bag first." This is what I grabbed....
![]() My trusty sandy zip-lock bag!
A must have for gathering Sea Glass!
Here's what I have when I get home....
![]() And after I sort the colours of my find this morning....
![]() I salvaged nine pieces of coveted blue off the beach this morning!
As you can see from the quarter they are very small but even the blue are different shades....
![]() This is what I've gathered this summer and fall (when I should have been housecleaning or blogging!)
![]() Lots of brown, various shades of green and aqua, bits of pottery, all in many sizes and shapes. In the little bags are more rare and unusual colours which you can't really see in the photo. They include blues, turquoise, yellow, mauve, pink, white glass, and one prized piece of red! Below are almost two cookie jars of the most common colour, clear. Everyone picked up one at a time!
![]() So now you know what I've been up to early in the morning or between jobs instead of blogging here and visiting around. It is getting pretty cold now so maybe after this week of extra low tides before heading to work I'll take a break 'til the spring. We'll see.
It has become pretty addictive!
I wonder if there is a help group for this addiction?
So there you have it, a blog about what I have been up to when I'm not here or at work.
Have a great day everyone!
11月6日 After Noel![]() Well I can finally blog again! I had planned to spend Sunday afternoon after church blogging & blog walking .... but Noel decided to keep me away from the computor. Early Sunday morning, I had just made a pot of tea, I was still tired so decided to try to go back to sleep...at 6:30 the power went off, I knew this 'cause an emergency light came on in the hall when the power went off. O.K. why waste a good hot pot of tea, which I couldn't warm up with no power. So I got up and had it but couldn't do much else but listen to the radio. The only radio I could listen to (battery operated) was Paul's radio headphones I got him last Christmas to wear while he mowed grass and listen to the radio also. Another radio called for two "C" batteries that I didn't have; another called for six "D" cell...I only had four. Some places in the maritimes were told not to expect power until 6pm Monday!
I went over my Sunday School lesson...still not sure if the power would be on or not...nor whether there would be church at all. By nine am the minister called and said church was cancelled. I was glad I ran off plenty of water the night before...I'm always prepared when I think we might lose power. I guess in cities you can still get water but not in the country. I decided to take a walk around to see what damaged may have occured from Noel. By then the winds were pretty bad but since it was a Post -tropical storm by the time it got here I could still walk around.
I was passing a neighbours house, she also collects sea-glass. We decided to got down to the beach late morning. Well we weren't the only ones! What is normally quite a deserted beach we met cars leaving and coming! We didn't find much, the beach was covered with sand and foam. The gusts turned the foam into what looked like dandelion fluff soaring along the beach. Next we took off to a less known beach. Well it seemed much windier there! As we walked up the beach, Edna, Homer & I, the sand pelted us, my did it hurt! We found a bit there also but really worked hard against the wind and blowing sand.
![]() When I got home I decided it was time for a second cup of tea. To make this I first had to get the wood stove in the basement going to heat up water and also add a little warmth to the now cooling off house.
Sure glad it wasn't winter and this storm brought warm temperatures with it. It's funny but when the power is off you don't do much of anything, but when the power did come on at five pm I could see things that I could have done during the day...like I didn't even empty the dishwasher I started the night before!
Monday I went to the beach twice...before morning work and again just before I had to work in the afternoon. (It just takes four minutes to drive there from home) The pickings were better but the high surf caught me both times so I had to change socks and shoes. The tide will be low again at one so hopefully I'll find some treasures today. Well got to go and get some blog walking done before I begin getting the house together again. Want to rush and get done so I can catch the tide. By this afternoon the grass should be dry enough I'll get most of the garden finished that I didn't get done yet.
Have a great day! 11月3日 Checking in on Saturday!![]() So I haven't been here for so long. Thought I'd better drop by to let you know all is well. I've just been slack at blogging and blog walking...just terrible. So much just keeping me busy between Halloween stuff, work and church. Also I've just become obsessed with beach combing for seaglass! The tide has been low around sunrise all week so as soon as it is daylight Homer and I are off to the beach. Then I have to head out to work so my computor time suffers! Today is Saturday and I don't work...yeah! Low tide isn't 'til around 11am. If Post-tropical storm Noel doesn't blow me away. or wash me out to sea...just kidding...I'll stay away from any high surf, I'll be heading down to the beach to see what is going on. Thought I'd better check in as they are predicting we may have power outages between noon today and noon tomorrow.
Not going to bore you with all the stuff from this past week. The party was successfull. We had two groups, the younger kids first then the older ones later, a large crowd both times. Got to spend a bit of time before the winds pick up to bring in the bird feeders, garden tools, chairs etc. Maybe Noel won't amount to much but then again it could be worse than expected so I'll just have to prepare, got to remember to run off lots of water for drinking and washing that's all. At least it isn't cold. I never got any pictures of the leaves changing. Any remaining will probably be gone after the weekend. The center of the storm is expected to go through my other Island blogging friend, Island News, home town of Summerside. Take care Ellen!
