11月27日 Happy American Thanksgiving!![]() Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends. Have a safe and blessed day!
To all my other friends I hope you have a wonderful Thursday too.
The weather turned warmer and with some rain our snow is all but gone. Before another comes I have to get the garden tools and ornaments put away if I can get that done the short hours I'm home when it isn't dark! the next snowfall may be here to stay.
The last two evenings we had church meetings to attend so that was impossible. I hate meetings but these were important to our church so I had to go...Looking forward to watching "Survivor" this evening.
Have a great day! 11月22日 Winterwonderland![]() Yep...we got snow...sometime after midnight our green grass was covered with about 5" of snow. It's heavy and wet, I just can't move it. It is getting milder and beginning to change to rain. That makes for a lot of slush!
We are supposed to be going to town this morning, so Paul said. He doesn't think the roads will be that bad, I hope he's right. We haven't got our winter tires on yet so I hope the roads will be plowed and sanded well!
Not much news this week, just work, eat, sleep and read. Oh yeah, I got the paint for the spare-room mixed. I was planning on painting today but Paul did it himself this week. I guess with the golf course closed for the season he had time on his hands I did it. I just have to get the trim painted white, a darker yellow (a nice golden colour left over from the living-room called Cypress Cone) on the door and shelves. Now Paul is right into getting this room ready for Chad & Adina he wants to get a new light fixture too. The present one is the original we put in, just a plain square glass fixture.
Well if all goes as planned we may get most of the rest of our Christmas shopping done. Usually we don't even start 'til the middle of December so this is and "event" in our household!
Well I'm all dressed and ready to go now I just have to wake up the night owl (who was out playing cards long after I was asleep)
Hope you have a safe and pleasant weekend!
For those fans of Maxine, here are a few I came across this morning:
![]() ![]() 11月15日 Beginning to paint the spare room...finally!![]() Well it's the weekend again! I had a pretty good week nothing spectacular happened. Though it was nice to have Tuesday off. I profited by using most of the day to get my treadmill finally downstairs. I disassembled it myself then I got Paul and our neighbour to help me move it down into the basement room other than being awkward and a bit heavy we were able to get it out the front door (only two steps down) and since we have a walk-in basement the rest was easy. The I put it all back together and it worked! Now I can use it anytime early in the morning and Paul's sleep won't be disturbed. Now to get myself on a schedule. I know I could find the time if I didn't spend so much here in the mornings! That will be a challenge to limit myself.
My computer was getting very slow so the night before last I deleted a bunch unused programs. So far I haven't had any problems so I guess nothing crucial was obliterated. It works so much faster now!
Last night we got a phone call from Chad. His wife's parents have given them a gift of an airline ticket home for Christmas! Chad & Adina won't be here for Christmas they will be at her home, which is only fair as her parents made this possible, but they will be here over the holidays. They will be coming Dec. 22, spend Christmas with them in Cape Breton then drive over here for a few days before returning to CB to head back to BC the first of January.
So now I have to get the spare room painted. I've had primer since last May but as you know time flies and summer activities became the forefront, like sea-glass hunting, boat trips, gardening etc! Last week I got the walls all washed down so I'm ready to begin painting. I finally have the colour to paint down to six choices. Four yellow/beige tones and two green tones. I'm trying to pick something to compliment the futon. Since it is a west room with just one window it's not very bright so the richer colours I like would make the room too dark.
Well that's it. I must leave and get the can of paint to the store to shake up and I must check my brushes and painters tape so I just need to make one trip!
Hope you have a great weekend! 11月11日 Remembrance Day Remembering today all the men and women who gave up their youth and many their lives to keep Canada a free country.Thank you Dad! ![]() Dad - then and now
![]() 11月9日 Got myself in a stupid fix this morning...locked myself outside!
The graphic says it all. I started this Sunday morning with my usual routine....get dressed, feed the cat and dog, make tea than settle in at the computer. I browsed around a bit at news on CBC and CNN; checked face book then headed over to Spaces. First...what started all this was my idea to check outside to see what the weather was really like, you know you can't always trust the forecast. Just wondered if it may be nice enough to work at my garden in the afternoon, and see if it was still warm or cold again, drizzling or clear skies so I'd have some idea how to dress for church. I had the phone off the hook to make sure no one called and woke Paul up 'til his alarm went off at 8:30. As it was shortly after 7 am when I stepped outside quietly closing the door behind me. with my first cup of tea in hand.
This is when I got myself into a fix....shutting the door....unbeknown to me, until a few short minutes later I found I had accidentally tripped the lock! Of course as Newtons law works, the front door was locked and all the windows shut up tight. I still wasn't concerned as we often forget to lock the basement door.....I walked around to the back, fully expecting that neither of us remembered we used it yesterday and left it unlocked...not to be. Well by this time I had finished my cup of tea and my body was ready for a refill! So what to do now? Would I wake Paul up by knocking on the bedroom window? Would I just sit on the doorstep for 1 1/2 hours? Well I spied the lawn rake....looked at the leaves on the lawn and in my flower beds. O.K. so I'd get some much needed work down and get some early morning exercise to boot.
Well by the time I got the front beds raked up I started on the lawn, worked my way down one side of the house stopping short of the apple tree, lots of apples fallen around them....too much work this early in the morning, but one tree has been producing apples fit to eat the last couple years, one still on the tree became my breakfast. Finally 8:30 was approaching...my sneakers were soaked through from the night rains, so were my socks and pant legs. My hands were getting sore and I noticed I must have blistered (work gloves in the house but one pair that were left out on the picnic table now wet and muddy) 'cause now they were broken open. Still no sign of the bedroom blinds opening. That left me to go to the door to activate my "alarm". Homer was still inside so I motioned enough to him talking to him through the closed window. This got him barking and eventually Paul came and rescued me. I sheepishly had to tell him what I had done.
So now I am back here with a fresh cup of tea. I never got around to blog walk as was my intentions much earlier this morning. But thought I'd share my early morning "adventure". Now I must leave and get ready for church. Hope I brought some humour to your day! Have a great one. 11月8日 Another weeknd has arrived!![]() Our weather was so nice and warm this week. Thursday was almost like summer. It would have been a great day for yard work but then I had to work. Today is warm also but it is expected to be drizzle most of the day and rain tomorrow. Oh well I have plenty to do inside. At least we don't have the snow that my friend Curtis has in Manitoba and into some of the States.
I am so excited...Tuesday is Remembrance Day in Canada. Since I am working at the store that day I am looking forward to a whole day off with pay! Since I worked at the store before, back about 2000, the only days I've had off have been due to sick, our son's wedding and snow storms where I couldn't get out. These were not paid. So thought I used to expect these paid holidays I've come to appreciate it after not having one for years! The weather is expected to be sunny though it will be cold again.
![]() Besides the regular cleaning to be done today I have to bath Homer. It is not a pleasure to give him a scratching or rub...phewee!
Megan has been having stomach pains and nausea for months not. Our family doctor was treating her for an ulcer but that hasn't helped her. She went to a specialist yesterday and as she surmised he also thinks she has gall stones. She's to be scheduled for a CAT scan to confirm his suspicions. Hopeful then she can be treated or operated on and begin to eat properly again a feel better. She's had a long spring and summer with this and trying to work at the same time.
Planning to bowl again Sunday. I love it but am a very poor bowler. More balls head down the gutter than where I aim them! Got to figure out why I get such curve balls, something in the wrist I'm doing completely wrong lol! Anyway, like I said, I'm having fun and getting good exercise to boot. One pair of my new pants I must now wear a belt with, they fit so nice when I got them a month or two ago. I'm still very slowly losing weight and am creeping toward my goal weight. This is all from eating healthier and cutting proportion to lower my cholesterol. I wish there was a way I could monitor my cholesterol at home just as you can monitor blood pressure and sugar. It must be lower though as I'm losing weight and getting my waist back.
Hope you are enjoying your weekend! 11月4日 American Voting System?Well I will be glad, even though I'm Canadian, when the election in the US is over. There isn't anything on TV except election coverage. I am starting to understand a bit about the American voting system, why the long waits. I have waited the most maybe 20 minutes, but hours? Our ballot is so simple. We have a ballot with 3 or so names on it; one name from each representative of each party in our area. One Conservative, one Liberal, one NDP, maybe the Green Party and possibly an independent. (Some provinces may have others like Quebec has the Bloc Quebec party). We go behind a screen and mark one "X" in our choice. That's it. From what I saw in the news coverage, it looks like it's a computer printout and lots of different voting on one ballot. I'm I right? Not sure but it looks so confusing to me. But if it works O.K. but such long waits doesn't seem very simple to me. I'm not criticizing just trying to learn and understand out different elections.
Not much going on. We went bowling again on Sunday night. I'm a very poor bowler, my high score was 100! but I still enjoyed it and had fun, we are serious bowlers.
Hope your week is going well! 11月1日 It's November already....winter is around the corner!![]() Well Hallowe'en is over and now it is November. Time to think about the coming winter and Christmas. Time has slipped by so fast. Gone are the long summer days, gone the beauty of the leaves changing. Mornings are dark when I get up, no heading to the beach to hunt for sea glass early before work. Paul has much of our winter wood stacked on the back deck. There maybe a few milder days I might get some gardening done but it doesn't look like I'll finish cleaning up the beds. It's getting much too cold most days. The building that we move last spring just days before the last snow is still to be fixed up to use. Paul has now begun to put in the floor boards that had to be ripped out to detach it from it's foundation. When he finishes this we'll be able to move some of his tools and plywood etc. into it. Then I can begin to de-clutter the junk and get it more organized.
![]() We had a quiet Hallowe'en. Though we had more kids than expected they were all good and polite. Years ago the kids were boisterous yelling "Trick or Treat" then running to the next house. We dolled out cans of pop, Paul made two kids of fudge and cupcakes. What I really noticed this year was how on leaving the house the kids would say "Thank you" and "Happy Halloween". When the girls were just in grade school our communities started an 8 o'clock curfew. It's taken many years but once 8 comes there is not a peep in the village. It used to be a lot of egg throwing. And since our house was centrally located and our son's room was in the basement which has an outside entrance. He and his friends kept coming in and out. It was 'til later I found out it was a great storage and hiding spot for cartons of eggs! We used to dread the late night to arrive as the older big kids and adults "kids" would begin to haul tires & wood on the bridge. This would be the "high lite" when a big bonfire was set. If you were on the wrong side of the bridge at this time the only way to get home would be to bypass the bridge by another road miles away! So it took a few years but that tradition has gone the way of outhouse.
Early yesterday morning I decided to get up my Halloween decorations which Paul finished putting up the lights and arranging the treats on the table. Now that it is over, at daylight I'll have to pack them away again. Since our Thanksgiving was in October, not November like my friends south of the border I can begin to think of preparing for Christmas. There is shopping to do, though the visit a couple of weeks ago at the craft store helped a lot, I still have some people to buy for, send Chad's & Adina's gifts out west, cards & letters to write and send, and then there is the decorating. I don't have to worry about the baking as that is Paul's department.
![]() Well I guess I better get some work done, last week I neglected the horrible chore of cleaning out the fridge and the monotonous dusting. I did the scrubbing yesterday so once I get these out of the way I can get some de-cluttering done and maybe some deeper cleaning attempted. I may even begin some work in the "dungeon" now that Megan & Steven are gone I can get that room put back in some order. I think I'll make it a "Craft Room". All my bottles & bags of sea-glass can be put there also all the stuff I have in baskets to make the bottle cap pin cushion. If I had made one everyday as I first planned I wouldn't have so much stuff left. I had big plans, anyway...
Hope you had a nice quiet Halloween, or had fun at at party. Enjoy your weekend! |
