    Have a great weekend!

Just dropping by...trying to get some blog walking done and visit as many as I can this morning before heading out to work. This evening the Sunday School is having a skate at the rink then coming back to the church for pizza, movie and sleep over. I won't be going to the rink...I hate the cold and besides it's at 4:50 and I work 'til 5 (also at the church) so I'll go home, get Paul and then back to the church. We may be the one's to go to Montague to get the pop & pizza anyway. I WON'T be staying the night. I am a poor enough sleeper as it is without being around a bunch of hyped up kids and sleeping on the floor! But since I'm a morning person I go tomorrow morning and help out with breakfast, clean things up and get the kids out by 9am hopefully.

    Have a great weekend!

Not much going on but thought I better drop by. Wednesday I finally finished the church Annual Report. Anyone reading previous posts would remember all the technical difficulties to get this done due to a power surge frying the computer and copier. Now I back up everything on a disk...never go through all that again! It's gone to the printers so is out of my hands...yeah!

For those not in North America or had overcast skies on Wednesday night, I literally froze my butt off getting these pictures of the total lunar eclipse.

The first pictures were taken with the dial set for action (not the moon moving but my unsteady hands) The next ones were taken when the eclipse was at it's best glowing an eerie red-orange. This was taken in "night" mode.

I took so many, most were so shaky it looked like multiple moons. None of the ones posted are perfect either but it was a pretty marvellous sight. I didn't get pictures of the waxing of the eclipse...had to go to bed sometime. As it was I had to lay on my back on the deck to try and keep the camera steady. It was a freezing -17' that night, even my electric blanket didn't feel warm 'cause I was so cold and chilled to the bone.

Today is cold but sunny...I'll take what I can get.

Figured I'd keep the penguin theme seeing that winter is going to hang around a while yet! We've had some more snow but a night of heavy rain melted a lot of that away, then a light covering to hide the dirt and re-covered any grass that was revealed from the rain. It also hid ice that had formed from the rain so we are back doing the "penguin walk".

We had a nice but quiet Valentine's. We exchanged cards and Paul brought some colour to our white and grey world by giving me a bouquet of flowers.

Friday evening we were invited out to a lady's home who also works at the winery. Our boss and his wife were to Thailand to visit her son. They brought home some slides so we watched them while eating a feast of assorted Thai food. It's the first time we tried Thai..some was good, some interesting and others a bit too spicy for Paul & I. All but one was vegetarian. Tofu isn't bad but not much too it. The best part was getting to visit with our daughter Megan who hasn't been out since Christmas. She also brought her new puppy, Pom-chi, which is a a Pomeranian-Chihuahua mix. He is very cute and snugly but oh so small! Tito will grow to an amazing weight of about 8lbs! I'm used to Homer our husky-collie-shepherd mix.

Yesterday our other daughter, Krista, and her BF were out for a few hours. He had a band thing to go to in Summerside in the evening, but we got to play a hand of cards, supper and some great laughs and conversation. Then later at night we got a call from our son Chad. He was half teasing but said I never called and to mark the date 'cause next time it's our turn to call him. I guess they will be moving to Dawson Creek in the north east of BC (British Columbia) early this summer. Adina already has a teaching position and Chad should have no problem getting a job in his new field, a child/youth councilor. They plan to be there 2-3 years before moving back to Nova Scotia or PEI.

I woke up early this morning, 4:30 and thought about my Sunday School lesson today. From then until almost 5:30 I tossed around the idea of setting up a "camp" and how to go about making a "tent" in my small class room. (It's just the back entry of the church).  Our story is about Abraham, Sarah & Lot's journey. By then I couldn't get back to sleep, just as well, I'm behind in my blogging and blog-walking!

Hope you and your loved ones are all safe, doing well and having a pleasant  Sunday!

    Snow Day!

    shoveling20snow.jpg picture by flyladyfaye

Enough said! I just finished a spell of scooping snow. I am staying home this morning anyway. Too much snow down last night...we were supposed to get just 5cm but we got 30 (12 inches)! It is still snowing lightly but the wind gusts will make visibility to bad. I called the boys and Jackie said though the neighbour is blowing out the lane it is still drifting bad. Just got the phone and my sister-in-law said not to come up today. It's not very far to their place but I guess I'll just stay home and call it a snow day and stay home and get some of my own things done. I need a break anyway.

    Happy Weekend!

Tuesday evening we finally got in another sign language class. It often occurs that every winter bad weather usually comes the same day of the week. This year it seems to land on Tuesdays but this time it didn't start 'til after we got into the class. We are trying to learn "O Canada" and hopefully will be able to present it at the Community School closing. It snowed into the night. Wednesday morning I got out to work OK but had to shovel in the lane just to make room for my car so it wouldn't be out on the highway. I had a long walk up the guys lane but by the time I was ready to head home the neighbour had the tractor out and had the lane blown out. He was even kind enough to bring my car up. This enabled me to take their garbage down to the road to their bin. There was no way I was going to carry it all the way down so this was appreciated. Thursday and Friday the sun occasionally came out to brighten up the winter blues. Today it's not too bad of a day and hopefully when Paul rises we will get out for a nice long walk in the fresh brisk air, I know Homer will appreciate it. Tomorrow may not be quite so nice as more snow is expected. Later today we are bringing in more wood. There won't be much left after this load is brought in. Winter has been much colder than last year so we have been going through it very quickly. That means we will have to start using oil to heat the house. And that will, of course, mean a bigger oil bill each month. We have just been using oil to heat our water and wash the laundry in cold water. This keeps the bill down and also conserves our natural resources. We can only hope for mild weather and an early spring.

Though I complain about the snow and cold I would much rather our weather than what my southern friends endure. We don't have earthquakes or tornadoes and our "heat waves" usually only last a few weeks each summer.  The worse we have are snow storms and power outages in the winter. Most people are equipped to hand a day or so of this as it is expected.  I think once in the past 20 years or so it was thought a small tornado may have been the culprit for some damages in another part of the Island. Water spouts have been seen on the Northumberland Strait occasionally in the summer but that's the extent of it. A few homes that are at sea level have been affected by storm surges a few times. That's about the worse worries of weather here on our Island. Even thunderstorms are rare and scattered. Winter makes me appreciate and cherish our beautiful island summers.

My heart goes out to my readers who have suffered through the storms and tornadoes this past week. I hope you and all your friends and family kept safe and well.

    Tuesday

Nothing new around here. Just checking in. My daughter-in-law and son are on the Island. Don't think I'll see them though this time. Adina is at a job fair at the university here just for the day. Her and Chad will be staying at Krista's in town for one night only as they don't want to miss much school. They are thinking of getting jobs here on the Island after they are done their courses in the spring. I would really like to have all my children on the Island. Then maybe they will settle down, buy a house and give me some grandchildren!

The weather is just neither extremely cold nor warm. A bit of cloud, a bit of sun. We are to get a bit of snow later today but I don't think it will be enough to cancel my sign language class tonight. So far we've only had the two classes as it stormed two of the four Tuesday's.

I'm looking foward to watching the first eposide of the latest "Surviour" this Thursday. Really miss my shows. I don't watch much but this is too much. I like Desperate Housewives, Medium and Ghost Whisperer and when they are on they are repeats. Wish the writers strike ends if they can come to some agreement. The only current show I watch is American Idol on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Can't wait to watch Canadian Idol which should be starting soon I hope.

    Saturday

So glad it is Saturday! I had a bit of a problem with my church job this week. This began on Wednesday at noon. Although we hadn't the power outage that much of the Island experienced this week, many lost their power on Monday and a few thousand still haven't had it restored by last night. Right at 12 noon on Wednesday our power went off. It remained so for 3 1/2 hours. This first made me late going to do my office job at the church. No sense as all I can do involved the photocopier and computer. So as soon as the power came back on I headed to Murray River to the church. I guess there was a problem with the electric pole before the outage. A line broke and caused power surges throughout the building.

A daycare uses our basement and things were going on and off and even a light bulb blew up. They unplug everything they thought of...but not the equipment in my locked office. When I got there...expecting to begin my delayed work...neither the copier nor computer would come on! I guess they are fried. We have our annual report coming up...I had many reports written up and never had the sense to copy to a disk. Maritime Electric took the blame but that doesn't help with my report. I guess it can be retrieved but will it be before the report is due? First the electric company wants a professional report on the copier and computer, then get someone to come in and fix things (I hope). So yesterday (I only work there 3 hours Wed. and another on Friday), I had to finish the bulletin at home on my own computer, drive to Murray River, photocopy on the old copier we still had there. It doesn't make clear copies and was also frustrating as it jambs frequently! Then I had to come back home and began typing out reports. I am starting with ones that I hadn't done yet. If things aren't fixed soon I'll have to retype the first ones and make a new Annual Report. This means starting from scratch with settings and retyping the reports I already did, some long.

So now it is Saturday and I'll banish this problem for the weekend even until next Wednesday, hopefully someone gets things back to normal before then. Today I plan to exercise, do my Sunday School lesson, make a poster for our Drama Club. Don't know if I'll do much housework, just sweep and pickup things around here. I think I'd rather continue reading a book I'm into and review some sign language exercises.  I'm hoping to go walking with Paul when he arises (I'm the early bird...he's the night owl and doesn't do mornings well) We had some more freezing rain last night so our walk depends on how slippery the roads are.

What are you doing this weekend?
    By the way...happy Groundhog Day!
