    Going Christmas shopping!?

    SaturdayJWnov2007.jpg picture by flyladyfaye

Just dropping by for a short visit. As the heading says...I'm going Christmas shopping. No I'm not getting started on next Christmas, this will be my first trip to town since Christmas. I got a gift certificate for Indigo from my son, Chad & his wife Adina for Christmas and I am going to spend it today. Not sure what book I'll get, it's a toss up between a book on Sea Glass, a new bible, "The Message" or an up to date book on Sign Language. Millie sent me her old books last year, they are wonderful books but as she can tell you they are 20 years old and like everything else, times change as well as ASL signs.

My brother-in-law is also in the hospital. As you may recall Freddie's wife passed away a short while ago. Now he is in the hospital. He has had a lot of pain from a blockage in the bowel, finally they are going to operate and hopefully get him fixed up.

This morning is mild but by this afternoon we are having a sudden drop in temperatures and may get freezing rain and/or snow. Paul will be driving so I feel safe with him. :) I don't think spring will ever come. The plows and snow blowers were busy in the village yesterday widening the roads in anticipation of more snow. The banks are so high now they will take forever to melt when/if we do get a run of mild weather!

My "speech" went OK. Now he wants us to make up another one for next week! Anyway it makes me learn better and be able to use ASL or English Sign language in sentences!

Well hope you all had a good week and even better weekend. I have to shower and get ready for my rare shopping trip. So I won't be around to visit today, maybe Sunday afternoon or early in the morning.
    Take care.
    Hugs, Faye

    My "exciting" week

    thsunnysunday-1-1.jpg picture by flyladyfaye

Spring is still a long way coming, we are expecting another snow storm and blowing snow again tonight. At least we had one day through the week where it was mild and some of the snow melted and was actually running down main street.

Yesterday I got my hair cut. I usually go on a Wednesday but my hair dresser has her monthly cancer treatment this coming week. Her cancer is gone but she said this treatment strengthens her bones and protects her. I'm so glad she is well enough to do a few clients. I sure missed her when she was so sick and I had to go to someone different.  She has been my hair dresser since I was in high school and she just got her licence. So we go a long way back!

For my ASL class I have to give a little "speech" about my self. I was told I had to make a new one when I commented I would just use the one I made last year, so I have a bit of homework. Almost forgot it so that is what I have to do this afternoon!

Well that is about all of the "excitement" in my corner of the world this past week. I see I have been slack with visiting (again) so that is the other thing I have to do today along with my ASL speech. So I hope I'll "see" all of you before the day is over! The way the weather keeps changing, forecasting more snow every time I look so, unless the temperature climbs a few degrees above freezing and we have more rain than snow, I may have a snow-day in the morning. Monday & Friday mornings I still do home-care out in the country but that won't prevent me from walking to my job at our local store in the afternoon.

This is a rendition of our projected new church before any building was started last fall, the architect took a picture of the site and placed the building in it so even the original trees and landscape are included:

and here it is today completed except for paving which of course can't be done at this time of year:

Here is a better picture of the new window made for our new church (taken by Paul in the day time) it is a great tribute to the three original church buildings:

    Winter Rant

WARNING: If you are looking for an uplifting, enlightening blog today I'd advise moving on.
I am suffering from the winter blahs and need to vent here.

I am so tired of winter! Tired of winter boots, hats, scarves, mitts, shovels, snow scrapers. Tired of the snow and cold and walking like a penguin on icy roads. Tired of shoveling the walk or walking through it if it isn't shoveled. By the looks of the snow banks it looks like it will still be a long time before we even see grass or bare ground. Now some of you, my dear blogging friends, are into the gardens digging around shoots of plants. How I envy you!

P.E.I. is such a beautiful, heavenly place in the summer, but winter just sucks and goes on and on and on. Well I'm taking in the welcome matt, winter has worn out it's welcome and has well past  it's "winter wonderland" beauty. There is just no beauty in old dirty, crusty snow banks and endless days of grey skies!
    O.K. I'm done ranting....

    "The Chair"

My brother posted a picture on facebook. It's of his two sons taken a year or two ago. The interesting part is the chair they are posed in, we grew up with this chair no matter where we lived.

Here is a much, much earlier picture of the same chair with two other children sitting in it. This was taken in 1957 (not 1857 Carol, that was a typo!) when my brother was just 8 months old and I was three!

Maybe someday my brother's grandchildren will have their picture taken in this same chair....

ASL was cancelled on Tuesday...another snow storm hit. I am so sick of winter and we are only halfway done.

Last night we had a Session meeting at church. Nothing marvelous in itself, what was noteworthy was that it was in our NEW Church! Sorry I didn't keep up with pictures of it's construction started last year. But it is finally finished enough that we are having our first church service in it on Sunday. It is so big compared to what we were used to. It replaces three separate churches, two are closed now and in the process of selling them. The pews are soft and comfy, the bathrooms are big and roomy, a large church office, separate Sunday School rooms. The kitchen will be big and very up to date. It isn't finished yet, that is "phase 2" and will be completed as more funds become available.  Phase 3 will be building on a hall sometime in the future.

I've posted some pictures I took while waiting for choir pratice to finish before our meeting. Things were just moved in the last couple days so you will note cardboard down on the new floor, empty boxes and the furnishings still sparce as some things still have to be moved in. Three stained glass windows were incorporated from two of our churches. A new one was designed to represent the three original churches united with the dove representing the Holy Spirit.

We've had a number of names submitted for our new church. The list was downsized to ten and all were able to cast their votes for their three favourite names. In about a month our new church name will be announced. My submitted name was one of the top ten. I won't reveal what it was until after the vote is finished. Dad's submission was also on the voting list. I picked his as my second choice before he told me it was his. Whatever name we choose as a congregation will be nice as right now we are just known in the communities around as "the new United Church on the Harbour road in Murray River".

Well it's Friday again! Hope you all have a great weekend!
