March 29 Where did Spring go?![]() Well where did Spring go? I thought she was around here the other day...but this morning...snow and blowing snow! Schools were canceled...it was even too windy to put sand on the roads it was blowing so hard with ice underneath! Since it had been so muddy, the car was parked on the road (we live at a dead end) and the plow left a bank of snow in front of it so Paul had to dig to get out this morning! Well one good thing I wasn't planning on moving anywhere today myself. My poor lonely crocus is now covered with a 2 foot drift!
I got some of my old genealogy files out, I haven't touched them in a couple years. I was sorting and organizing some of them. Then I wanted to search a name and date of an ancestor...well that got me onto the new nova Scotia genealogy web site that just opened a week or two. There went the rest of the afternoon...it was so amazing seeing old documents of births, marriages and deaths of names I have on my dad's side (Mom's an Islander, Dad a Blue Nose from Nova Scotia) It even had the death of "first Fred" my grandfather Fred's (2nd Fred) brother that died in infancy. All Dad and I knew that he was a baby when he died, but this document said he was three months and died of diarrhea. Anyway it was fascinating to me but I guess it boring to you my readers.
Hope your weather was better than ours!
March 28 Wet Wednesday![]() Yesterday we had lovely spring weather...and I didn't get outside in the garden! I am just kicking myself. In the morning I dusted then brought in some wood. After dinner I napped then just puttered around on the computer before starting supper. I should have taken advantage of the nice weather but you know those lazy days when you don't work and just feel like doing nothing? Now today I go to work, it is going to rain/flurries all day! That is going to make for a messy lane I'll have to walk up the long country lane in the rain. I sure wish I had some ambition yesterday. Well maybe tomorrow...
Sunday there were just three in my class but the twins made it feel like a dozen! They were grabbing things and kept interrupting. I guess they are become so attached to me they treat me like a mom...not listening to me or sitting still when they are supposed to. After church Paul and I went to Montague and had Chinese dinner then went over to the hospital to visit an elderly friend. He didn't have a heart attack like we thought but problems with pockets in the bowel and pneumonia. He is allergic to all three antibiotics they can give him so he has been very confused.
Well I now have three crocus up and the green is coming through from the daffodils and tulips. Yesterday I also saw some American Goldfinch
and a Slate Coloured Junco at my feeder. Hopefully winter is gone and we will get more nice days like yesterday.
March 23 Pool & pizza party!![]() I had just got home from work at the church and we had to load up the car and head to the pool in Montague. The Sunday School were having a swim at the pool.It was so nice to do late in March. It is March break for the schools so we thought we'd do something special with the Sunday School. We had a vote for 1. bowling 2. skating and 3. the pool. The pool got the most votes.
We picked up the pizza on the way back to the church. I hadn't had supper so after smelling the hot pizza all the way home I let some of the mom's distrubute the pizza while I indulge myself with a couple pieces of pizza and garlic fingers (are you drooling yet Curtis?)
They are staying the night with games and movies. I really need my quiet time and a proper sleep so I came home with a mom who wasn't staying either. So it is just Homer and I home for a quiet rest of the evening and a great sleep. Paul stayed and will be serving pancakes for breadkfast to the crowd. My "kids" wanted me to stay but as I said to them I need my sleep in my own bed. They are adorable but not 20 - 30 of them all night! I wouldn't be fit to live with if I had stayed.
Finally we had some spring-like weather today. The ground was froze when I last parked the car in the yard on Wednesday, this morning I had a lot of trouble getting out, near got stuck and tore up the yard a bit getting out. Some of the fishermen had trucks loaded with traps to take to the wharf and some people were out raking their yards it was so nice. Hopefully it will last and winter can be forgot 'til next December. I think it was changing my theme on my page here that made the difference, my winter fairy had to go!
Hope your weekend is off to a great start.
Do I look like any of these?! March 20 Tuesday
I have been pretty slack here lately...I don't know if it is because of the time change or the kids visit...probably a combination. I just can't seem to get going with a new blog. Not much going on. I found out yesterday that I am going to help bottle wine today so I cleaned up the house yesterday, mostly just the floors and dusting. The dust was so thick it was the greatest need. I did get the last five of my painting finally varnished. I'm anxious to start a new one. I have a friend who is building his own place. He said he'd buy the Lupins if it had a wagon in it. So if he can find a picture of the kind of wagon he wants I hope to paint a picture for him. This will be a house warming. He has two Clydesdale horse, but I don't think I could paint them to look like horses. I'm not good at people or animals. So it is still cold here and we had some snow yesterday. I guess spring will take longer coming here. Though I did see one lonely crocus peeping up. It will need some sun to open up, in the mean time it's just clinging to the warmth of the house foundation. So since I work today I have no plans to start anything 'til Thursday. My friend from Nfld, Stella, arrived home yesterday and invited us to over for "coffee" this evening(I drink tea, he he). She's the one I painted the rock for her husbands grave in Nfld. When he died she said she didn't want another man, I just listened to her and let her heal at her own pace. Just a couple weeks ago she called and said she is engaged, I am so happy for her. It has been a long journey for her. Have a great Tuesday! March 16 Friday
All the kids left Thursday morning. We had a great time getting to see each other. We were in to town to get family pictures taken. The last time was about twelve years ago when they were just kids. Some pictures were taken of them with my dad. I even got one with just my dad & I. Also the kids and us including our daughter-in-law in this set. These will be nice to have. The next time we get them taken hopefully there will be son-in-laws and grandchildren if as much time passes as the last ones! We played board games way past my bedtime. So I am still trying to play catch-up with my sleep. After they left I washed bedding, swept and tidied up the house. I napped most of the afternoon. In the evening I read for awhile then Paul, Meg & I had a game of Scrabble. We had some nice weather, well warm anyway, it rained yesterday. It took away most of the snow. Today it is colder and it is forecast to get our St. Patrick's Day storm tonight into tomorrow with snow, ice pellets and strong winds. Hopefully this will finish our winter weather. Of to work this morning, then I have the weekend off. Since it is March break there is no Sunday School so I won't have to prepare a lesson tomorrow. Have a great Friday!
March 14 Flying by on Wednesday!
Just stopping by for a second. It has been very busy here all week with all the kids at home including a daughter-in-law and one daughters boyfriend. The computer is in the livingroom so either someone is on the computer or in the morning someone is sleeping on the couch and I disturb them with my early hours. So I just dropped by to let you know I'm fine. They are calling now to play a board game so I have to run! I dropped by to visit most of you but can't leave a message cause the typing is "too loud" when people are sleeping. Talk later in the week. Hope all is well in your world. Hugs, Faye March 11 Sunday
Well finally we are out of the deep freeze we had last week! Yesterday I went walking with the guys but the wind still made it quite chilly. This morning it is above freezing and the snow is melting. We are supposed to get rain so that will take most of what little we did get this winter away. I cleaned up the house yesterday. Glad I did get it done 'cause Paul's card playing friends came here to play. I curled up in the living room with a good book 'til sleep overtook and I headed to bed. I was surprised that my computer changed the time being that it is three weeks early, but my little clock on my space was behind so I rectified that. Tonight we are invited out to a pot luck at a friends. I think I'll mix up some filling for Quesadillas and grill them when we get there. I have lots of leftover turkey in the freezer so this will use up a lot of it. Doubt there will be many in church or Sunday School with the time change. Although a few, that had forgot to change their clocks, may arrive just as we are about ready to leave. Hope you are having a great Sunday and adjusting to the time change.
March 09 Coldest night of the year
Bruce Cockburn sums it up...last night was "the coldest night of the year". Today isn't any warmer though it is nice to see some sun. I just came from walking up to our community centre to unlock the doors and turn up the heat. I near froze coming home against the wind!Homer came with me and he was quick to come back in the house when we got home. No wandering for him today either.
This morning I'm heading out to the cold windy shore to work. Then home for a bit 'til I go to Dad's for lunch before heading over to the church to get the bulletins done for Sunday. Tomorrow it is suppose to get up above freezing. I may be walking with the guys if it does. It's been too cold for even them most of this week! Hope it is warm and sunny in your little corner of the world.
Have great Friday!
March 07 Deep Freeze
Going to be a real cold one today. It's -18'C (-2F) with a wind chill of -31'C (-24F)! I have to go out in it too! I hate the cold. At least we will only get a couple days of it. By the weekend it will be up to the plus tempretures with as high as +9 on Sunday (48F). I'll have to dig out my short! ha ha
March 06 Tuesday
Yesterday was my dad's 88th birthday so we decided to have him for supper. I cooked Chicken Almond, Fried Rice and broccoli. Paul made the Dry Garlic Spareribs and Chocolate Cake. But we had to rush and be to another church meeting at 7pm. Well I am so glad today is all my own. No more meetings for awhile. I am sick of meetings, three in less than a week. I like to have my evenings at home relaxing. Today after getting the laundry done and dishwasher emptied I sat down and blog-walked. I know most of you think I'm crazy being a day off, but I did some more work in the dungeon all morning. This time I got some craft stuff organized/thrown out and got some Christmas stuff on the shelves that just didn't get done after Christmas. You know...the last of the ornaments that you put away well after Christmas . Not actually "put" away, just set the boxes down " until later". Not sure what I'm going to do with the rest of my afternoon. I thought of going back down...I had so much energy this morning...but now that I've stopped...had lunch and relaxing here at the computor with a cup-a-tea...I may just finish my relaxing with a book and/or nap. I was thinking that I should exercise but then again lifting boxes, moving a dozen gallons of paint cans and lugging boxes of half used floor tile from one area to another should constitute excercise! Hope you are having a good week.
March 04 My weekend![]() Thanks for all the understanding comments. It reinforces my belief that I know how to teach my Sunday School class. Just wish there was more time with them.
Yesterday I cleaned the house except for the dusting. I figured that when I worked full time with three busy youngsters at home it only got done every two weeks at that so what's the difference now. If it gets done it gets done if not I'm probably the only one who will notice anyway right?
Well since I got my Sunday School lesson done the morning I got up at 4 am the rest of the day was free. When Paul asked if I wanted to go to Montague I just had to freshen up and we were out the door. We did some grocery shopping, drug store , lunch at Subway was a delicious Roast Beef Wrap with lots of veggies. We had a quick stop at the hardware store, I grabbed some paint swatches.
When the Chad & Adina come next week, if the weather is fair to take the piano back with them, I can start painting that room (if I can ever decide on the colour!) Then every room will have had some sort of make over. Their had been no decorating since we built the house 28 years ago. A couple rooms had a bit of paint changes but nothing inspiring. So now with all but one gone and more time at home I've been having fun doing things my way with inspiration from all the decorating/home shows on TV.
In the evening we were invited out to one of Paul's card playing friends for a lasagna dinner. It was so good but my favourite was the blueberry pie for dessert. I''m not much for sweets but I love homemade blueberry pie!
So Paul brought me home and went back for an evening of cards. I went out to watch the eclipse, but just when it was almost covered some clouds blocked my view. I tried taking pictures but all I got was total blackness with a smudge of what was supposed to be the moon. It was a nice mild evening so I called my sister-in-law, Brenda, (the one whose husband died last year, Paul's brother) and walked over to her place (remember we are down to one car) It only took me 15 minutes the road way in the spring when the snow is gone there is a short cut. I stayed a little over an hour. It was a bit dark in places going where there were no street lights but coming home the moon was up higher, bright and full to illuminate my way back.
Friday night my other sister-in-law, Joyce (Paul's other brother, Freddie's wife) got home her pain is manageable now but still is quite a bit in her back from the breaks in her ribcage. She has severe Osteoporosis from taking Prednisone for too many years, so she is always breaking something.
Got to go clean up for church/Sunday School . Hope you are having a good Sunday! March 02 Friday![]() Well it is Friday and I have a couple days home hopefully I'll be more perky than I have been all week. Finally I had a good , nights sleep last night. The night before we had a very long Annual Meeting. I ended up taking the minutes. It got testy for awhile as we talked about Sunday School. I wanted to change back to having it at 9:30, before church but the majority, all but me, wanted it to remain as it has the past year, at 11:00. The Sunday School would start out in church so the class wouldn't start 'til 11:30. This included the time that all the classes met before we could begin our lesson. I find it just isn't enough to do even half of what I want. The minister & I got in a bit of a heated argument. We have been down this road before, her & I. It really hurt when I overheard the "whispering" of the front row saying they never had crafts when they went to Sunday School. I feel the craft reinforces the story. The kids look forward to it also. If it wasn't for the kids I think I'd quit.
Anyway after getting home at almost 10:30 I went to bed only to wake up at 3:45 in tears reliving the issue of Sunday School. I ended up getting up for the day at 4 am. I did my Sunday School lesson, craft included, the wash, and dishes from the night before. I had all this done before Paul got up at 8:10.
Other that sweeping the floors I didn't get much else accomplished. Late in the afternoon I was able to sleep for awhile. Got up, made supper before going to another meeting last night. I am now on Session so this gives me one more meeting to attend a month. As an Elder I am also required to attend all Official Board meeting and my job as I said before I will take the minutes at these meeting. The time taking minutes though will be deducted from my paid job in the summer when it is slow. More beach/gardening time!
Tonight the forecast calls for a storm coming our way. I guess it is going to be messy with lots of snow, wind, rain and ice pellets. A good day to stay home! |
