4月26日 Have a great weekend!![]() Well I'll not be gardening today. We only had two really nice spring days, then we had cold rain and a day of snow. Not a lot of snow but enough to let us beware that the spring weather we had is just a respite and we are not out of the woods yet. Last year we had a snow storm May 1st an another May 16. The tulips aren't up much farther than before but I see a few daffodils are sprouting. Some of the small bulbs like crocus are blooming and though we don't have leaves on the trees yet they are beginning to bud. Many of the spring birds have arrived and are great fun to watch them flitter around the yard.
I didn't get as much in the line of clothes that I wanted. It was such a pain trying things on. I tried a few jeans but the 1st ones didn't fit right so I gave up. I did get a spring jacket and a lighter summer one. A few tops and some sleepwear. Also restocked some of my makeup. My lip colour I've had for years is now obsolete so I had the clerk pick out a new one for me and figured since she was helping me I might as well get her to pick out shades of blush and powder at the same time. This is where a sister or close friend would have been nice to have with me. We tried to phone Krista to come help me shop but couldn't contact her. (She let her cell phone go dead)
Poor Krista, (my middle child) came down with shingles this week. They are on her forehead and in her hair and are being to hurt. She was told by the company she works to take a week off. She had to use up her sick days a few weeks ago so now she has to dip into her holidays. I'm afraid though it may be much more than one week before she feels better.
Megan was out for a few days with her puppy, Tito. She's back to her own apartment now as her boyfriend is back from a holiday with his family to Hawaii. Now she's happy. Tito is just a small dog, and Pomchu. His antics were so funny. Outside he was skitterish when the birds were around but in the house he was watching them at the feeder...all of a sudden I heard a "smack"....he jumped up to catch one and smash against the window. He didn't get hurt at all but it was so funny to watch him.
Homer and I went a couple times to get seaglass but there were lots of footprints from earlier in the day so they were picked over before we arrived.
I have to make an effort to get around blogwalking to as many friends as I can today...you've all been neglected...and so has the housework as I have been so lost in the series of books. I finished, "Clan of the Cave Bear" and "The Valley of Horses". I immediately started the third of 5 books, "The Mammoth Hunters".
Hope you have a great weekend and hope I'll be round to visit you all this weekend! 4月22日 Going shopping for clothes today![]() Our weather won't be as warm this week as predicted. At least we won't have snow (fingers crossed).
Today we are going to town. I got my income tax back. Paul said to use it on myself and get some clothes, so I will pick up some today. Haven't made a list of what I what/need, but I do need some. What still fits is getting old and the rest don't fit well anymore due to some weight lose. Not much but enough that my pants are baggy and I have to wear a belt. I love new jeans but hate buying them 'cause I have to try on so many pairs til I find something that fits good. I think I look for new sneakers and a spring jacket. I should get a dress or skirt and some tops. We'll see when I get there. Oh well I'll just get what I like/want until I run out of money...hehe.
I don't know what some kids had in mind, but at the tennis court/ball field up the road they had a bon fire burning. This one young boy, around 10-11, ended up getting his pants on fire. He was burned bad and an ambulance was called. His sneaker was burned along with his pant leg. Megan is home for a couple days and was up on the trellis trimming our grapevines and heard the screaming but didn't know til after what was going on as kids do scream in play often. I hope he's OK and will recover quickly.
Well our weather is really weird this year. Vancouver area rarely gets snow and this week they got a snowstorm as did many other places. Illinois and surrounding states have been plagued all this past week with earthquakes and aftershocks! How scary when you aren't used to it. I'm glad, as far as I know, that no one was hurt.
I finished "The Clan of the Cave Bear" and am now in the second book, "The Valley of Horses". Not as good as the 1st but still captivating. The library system has the other three books so I'll order the soon. I have two other books already on their way to our library so I'll wait til these come as I can only read so much at a time. I'll take my book with me as I have to wait for Paul at two appointments today before we go shopping.
Have a great day what ever your plans!
Note: I got a message back from Mark's mom on "facebook". I guess he's home this morning but has to see a skin specialist this evening. He slept last night and the pain isn't so bad but he does have 2nd and 3rd degree burns from his knee down. She said all the boys got a bad scare. Hopefully they learned lesson but it was the hard way for one little boy.
4月17日 A totally spring day!![]() Well we had a real spring day today. I've been looking forward to it all week. The forecast called for a sunny, warm day today and this time "Boomer" our weatherman was right on target. The best part was I had no work, appointments or anything. This was a complete "me" day, and I really enjoyed it. The temperature was even warmer than expected it hit a high of 18'C (64.4'F). I spent most of the day in my flower beds. Now I'm sore and dirty and loving it! The lower garden, sheltered in the back yard even got too warm, but I should kick myself for even saying that after such a long cold winter. I started out with a jacket over sweatshirt over T-shirt. A gradually peeled off the layers 'til I was in just the T-shirt( and jeans of course...haha)
![]() Even my breaks were enjoyable 'cause I'd slip into the house and read a bit from a long but very interesting novel. Robin had the book "The Valley of Horses" on her book list. I ordered this from the library and after waiting a week or two it came in. When I went to pick it up the librarian, Kay, said it was 2nd in a series and she thought the first one was in stock. So I am reading it first "The Clan of the Cave Bear" by Jean M. Auel. It is a fiction written about this girl in prehistoric Europe during the Ice Age.
(note: I Google this book and it was made into a movie but I guess, as most books, it wasn't as good as the movie is said to be a flop) The only "work" I did was make supper and put the dishes in the dish washer.
After supper I slipped to the beach to gather sea-glass. The tide was rising and by the looks of footprints it was a busy day there also. I didn't find much left but did get my outing. The sun was beginning to set and the breeze from the Strait was much cooler than home. There is still ice out on the water so there won't be any wading for a good bit no matter how warm the temperatures are!
Hope you had a great day whatever you weather brought today!
![]() 4月12日 Spring has Sprung![]() O.K. even though there is a mixture of snow and rain falling as I speak I am going to declare that "Spring has Sprung" here. The crocus are blooming, we had a very nice warm, sunny day last week and the temperatures are slowly rising. This morning Homer and I went to the beach to check out the sea-glass and I finished raking the yard and beds this morning though I did have to wear gloves 'cause it's still a bit chilly. We still may get snow as last year we got two snowstorms in May...the 1st and 16th. The wharf is being to look like spring. It's getting pretty stacked up with lobster traps ready to head out the first of May. During the next few weeks I expect to see the boat haulers taking fishing boats and setting them in the water. The only thing that may slow this down is that there is still a lot of ice out in the Northumberland Strait. We need some strong winds and mild weather to send the ice out to sea.
(our boats do not have sails as depicted in the graphic rendition)Now that the weather is warming up (and we all but ran out of wood) we are only heating the house with oil now. Earlier this winter the draft malfunctioned and smoke drifted upstairs. I left cleaning the walls until we stopped burning wood. Last week I got the bathroom walls etc cleaned and this past week I got our bedroom done except the closet and bureau drawers. Now it feels so nice and it was a nice day when the windows and with fresh crisp curtains and clean window panes it was so inviting to see the curtains blowing in the breeze and let the fresh air in!
![]() I got all my most important documents and pictures on CD-R's and have put three anti-virus programs each a couple times through. (Thanks Herman for the link to one of these) Hopefully I got all the virus...We had a great time with the game but it's not worth the worry and possible chance of another infection...next time I might not be so lucky!
![]() Hope you are having a great weekend!
4月9日 Trojan Horse and Jewel Quest Solitaire![]() Well Paul & I were having a great time competing with the game Jewel Quest Solitaire. DO NOT download this game! I have been infected with Trojan Horse Back Door. I deleted the game and all components and hope I got it. But I'm told it can multiply and rename itself or something. At the moment I am copying all our files on disks as we haven't done this before...I know...stupid not too. I won't have them all done before heading out to work this pm but have Paul's recipes and some other things on CD now. Still have all our pictures etc. Maybe I'm safe but I don't want to open up the computer and find everything has been wiped out!
Hope I didn't encourage anyone else to download this and they have problems.
Have a great day...
4月5日 Quiet Saturday
Just took it slow and easy today. Did a bit of tidying up but nothing strenuous...got the Sunday School lesson out of the way quickly. Continuing my morning exercises in spite of not loosing weight...hopefully when the new prescription kicks in an my metabolism increases the dieting (alias healthy eating) and exercises will show some positive results. I watched "Last 10 Pounds" today...I wish I had a trainer and someone to fill me fridge with the proper foods and proportions like the women on the show. Well spring isn't actually here yet...not when we have snow every couple days. It goes away quickly though when we do get it. But I have seen a few signs that spring is working hard to show itself. I picked two of my six crocus that finally bloomed and the tulips are up about an inch. And just this morning I saw my first Red Winged Blackbird of the year so surely fine weather will soon follow! It's so nice to see all the flowers in bloom in the gardens of my blogging friends. Another month and I'll be digging in the dirt and tending to all my "babies" as they spring forth. Just relaxing this evening. Still playing that addictive game of Jewel Quest Solitaire, but taking time out to update with a blog and then I'm going to settle down for the rest of the evening to read a spell before hitting the sack. Have a great Sunday where ever you are and what ever weather comes your way.
4月3日 I don't live here?!![]() Check out this link:
Guinness declares PEI The largest Uninhabited Island in the World This is a riot! It says no one lives here. One person came to Prince Edward Island, saw a snow covered field and declared no one lives here. They later retracted this and after visiting our capitol they said "Charlottetown and that the island is, indeed, filled with people of sorts. However, after spending a few days there he felt that no civilized person would ever consider living there. We subsequently categorized PEI as the most uninhabitable island in the world."
Well I finally got my Cholesterol test results back...even after cutting out cheese, butter, eating healthy and exercise it was up. But I also had my thyroid check and it was low. I've had the same prescription since I was diagnosed 9 years ago. So now I'm on a stronger dose. The doctor said this could also be the reason my cholesterol is up. Also it may be why I have been so tired and have had a long bout of insomnia. I was so tired earlier this week I had to leave a job early I was so exhausted. So hopefully in a week or two my energy levels will increase.
I was talking to the bus driver this morning before she left, I guess something was wrong with the brakes even though she had them on. Good job Paul just happened to take the car instead of walking up to the Community Centre just moments before the bus coasted back or our car would not have fared well. He was gone just 10 minutes. If I wasn't engrossed into a game of Jewel Solitaire I would have seen it happen.
Have a great Thursday! 4月1日 April Fools![]() I'm not a practical joker. I wish I was but I can't hold a straight face for two seconds. If I could I'd get back at all the times the men; brother-in-law, husband, son, pulled jokes on me! I'm so gullible and trusting so it's easy to get me. So far I'm not caught only because I'm the first one up!
Well I don't know if someone was trying to pull an early April Fools joke on our neighbour or not. Carol drives the school bus and lives just two homes away. There's only three on this side of a short dead end road. It was just before 5pm....I was on the computor lost in a game when Paul had to run out for just 10 minutes. Supper was almost ready and he also wanted to be home to watch Judge Judy. When he came back the school bus was in front of our house, right at the end of the road. It was backed up so far some logs that were in the field were fetched under it.
Well Carol is a responsible adult, about 60, I figured she moved it for a reason, and let it pass. All evening it was there. It was strange looking out seeing a big yellow school bus sitting outfront and I wondered why Carol didn't try to move it back to her yard and went to bed. I had just fell asleep (10:30) when Homer barked announcing a visitor. I guess Carol was away and had just found out the bus was not where she left it. She had the air brakes on so it was no accident. She usually pulls away at 7:10 in the mornings and it's almost 6:30 and there's no sign of the bus moving.
![]() Well off today for a "happy" Pap test, I don't know which is worse, that or a mamogram...anyway got to have them done don't we ladies?
Have a great day! |
