April 27 Spring has finally arrived!!![]() Finally I think spring has finally arrived! Saturday was very nice and warm yet I didn't get in the garden as I spent the day shopping. I got lots of nice summer clothes, now I am broke!
![]() Sunday we were having Krista, Megan and their boyfriends along with Dad for a BBQ. This was in celebration of Chris' and Steven's birthdays Saturday and Thursday respectively. I cleaned off the deck early in the morning in hopes to eat outside. It was so cold and raining when I was doing it. The weather got colder as the day progressed though and so windy we had to move the BBQ into the building and ate inside. Though things didn't go as planned we had a great time and after burgers, sausages, hot-dogs, salad and birthday cake we planned a fun game, new one that Krista & Chris brought. It was hilarious as we found out things we knew or didn't know about those around the table. I can't remember the name of the game, sorry.
![]() Today is nice again and the temperature is expected to go up to 12C. It is sunny and no wind so it looks to be a nice day and the week also sounds promising. The grass is beginning to turn green. My daffodils are budding and I am discovering where I planted my new tulip bulbs.
![]() Brehaut's, our only local restaurant, is opening for the season today so everyone, with exception to those who work there, are excited and it will prove to be a very busy day for them. Thursday is "setting day" when the lobster boats will be loaded and traps deposited to be hauled in on the 1st of May. Hopefully many will have their first feed of hot lobster of the season!
![]() Most of you have seen Susan Boyle on "Britons Got Talent" or heard of her anyway in the news. Our new church is equipped with an a large screen up front that we can view anything the Internet provides. For children's time we watched this video. The children were asked to watch the reactions of the judges and audience before and after her audition. Not a sound even from the youngest was heard as we watched. The minister then told the kids (and us) not to judge by outward appearances. It was really nice to see and even though I've seen the video before, my eyes still watered.
![]() Have a great week!
![]() Hugs, Faye April 19 Sunday Ramblings![]() Well spring is slow to arrive here. Still. Yesterday morning I had hoped that I it would be a nice outdoor day but the ground was white again. I was greeted with about and inch of crystallized snow. This wasn't white and fluffy, nor snowman snow, it was like the heavy frost in your freezer when it's time to clean it out. The day remained cold throughout. Homer's outside water dish was frozen solid not just a little early morning crust but one solid "cube".
Not much to report, it was a quiet week. My "big" happening was a fresh hair cut by my hairdresser and a colouring by my in-home colourist, Paul.
Since outside wasn't too promising yesterday I cleaned up the house in the morning then finally finished the remaining income tax. Now tomorrow I can send them and wait for my refund cheque.
![]() Oh yes, I also went through my drawers and closet. I now have more jeans, pants, Capri's, dresses, skirts etc. in a goodwill bag then I have in my closet. Paul has promised me a trip to town to shop as when the warm weather ever comes I have very little (other than a drawer filled with a large assortment of T-shirts) to wear. Only a couple of Capri's and all of the shorts I owned, including the new ones I got last year are way too big. I am left with one cotton summer dress, the dress from Chad & Adina's wedding, a black jumper/sleeveless dress, one black skirt and one brown for dressy clothes. So a shopping trip I need! Though the long range forecast calls for sun and warmer temperatures next Saturday I will have to forgo the garden and head to town. As I said before, I hate shopping but I can only go on Saturdays and though it will be an all day affair it will have to be done.
![]() Heading out to church...Paul and I are going to Montague to eat after church, haven't done that for a long time, something was always coming up: a meeting after church other plans so I am looking forward to a "lunch date" with my husband. Hope you have a great Sunday and super week! April 12 Happy Easter![]() Happy Easter Everyone!
Our weather has been a very mixed bag this week. Some days were almost as cold as winter but most of the snow has melted which I enjoy to see colours, though not bright yet are a change from all white!
Friday was an excellent day. The store was closed though I did go to my home-care job in the morning. Then I rushed through the housework and head out into the yard in the afternoon. I began to rack my flower beds. I was in the backyard. Here it is like a different zone. It got so warm and as I raked I began to peel off outer clothing so I was eventually down to my T-shirt! A big change from a week ago when I had to wear the whole winter garment of heavy coat, boots, hat & gloves!
Saturday was not as warm and since it looked like the weather was going to get colder as the day went on I finished raking the beds, front and back in the morning. The afternoon I just took it easy in the house. Megan came by to spend the night to help Paul with the pancake breakfast Sunday morning. The weather forecast didn't sound very good at all with a heavy snowfall warning so they planned to mix up the batter in the morning. A previous year it was mixed up the night before and we were stuck with gallons, literally, of batter when we had to cancel all services including the breakfast due to a big snowstorm!
Paul couldn't go to our sunrise service at 6am because he had to get ready for the breakfast at 8am. This left me alone to head out to our service. It was in a different place this morning, a home on the Northumberland Strait in High Bank. It has for many years been at Machon's point on the beach. The snow didn't come but it was raining quite heavy. Homer, (my Husky mixed dog for those who are new to my space), always comes with me but when I asked him to come in the car he just looked at me as if to say "Are you crazy?".
It was still dark due to the overcast skies as I headed out in the rain. Their were balloons at the end of the lane so I knew I had the right place. There were two lanes side-by-side. One looked less traveled so I took the second one. When I got done to the house it was in darkness but I saw any vehicles in the yard so pulled in. I was a couple minutes late so wondered where everyone was. I looked at the second lane that didn't look to healthy to drive down and figured they must have walked down to the beach front for our outdoor service. So with travel mug or tea I pulled up the hood of my coat and headed down in the rain first crossing a wet soggy field then walked for 10 minutes down this lane still not finding anyone or hearing any voices. I figured I was on a wild goose chase. It might have been a nice walk if it hadn't been so wet and still quite dark! I just hoped no coyotes were looking for an early morning snack.
Anyway I finally found a house which happened to be the right house. I was greeted to come inside. I guess I was called shortly before but had already left, that since it was raining so hard the service was at the church instead at 6:30. Well another lady who is on communion with me this morning came by as I was leaving and gave me a lift up to my car ( guess the road was more passable then it looked to me). By this time it was almost 6:30 and I was drenched and chilled so headed home instead of going to the church.
Paul and Megan had left for the church before I got home so it is quiet. Church isn't 'til 11 so I have plenty of time before I have to get ready to go. Anyway this gave me time to write this blog.
Hope you all have a blessed Easter! April 05 First Sunday in April![]() It was a long week that I'm glad is over. Monday morning I was fine for traveling out to the country. An expected snow storm didn't start 'til after I got to work at the store. Tuesday morning I ended up donning boots and all my winter clothes as I trudged through knee deep snow on unplowed roads. One snow plow was stuck just outside the village and another was broke down though main street had been plowed before hand.
![]() It wasn't 'til later I found out that my oldest daughter, along with her BF and another couple who were at a skiing trip in Nova Scotia had headed home just at the start of the storm. They were in a cabin and had not listened to the forecast having neither radio nor TV. As they started home the storm got worse. They were lucky to get stuck behind a snow plow. Chris said "all we need now is an ambulance behind us" and sure enough, not 15 min. later an ambulance drove up behind them. I'm glad I didn't know they were on the road in the storm until after they were safely home!
![]() Wednesday I went to the funeral home for Elmer's wake and Thursday the store was closed for most of the afternoon as we went as a body to his funeral. That was a hard time. His nephew did the eulogy. Since he lives in Ontario he hasn't been around much. His dad, Elmer only sibling lives in NS. He was amazed at how many came out to the funeral noting that he didn't know that so many people knew Elmer and wasn't even aware that that many lived in Murray Harbour.
Well driving out to the country on Friday morning I encountered the second worse fog I've driven in. Sometimes I couldn't even see one telephone pole ahead of me. It was a bit harrowing at times to say the least! But the fog proved a blessing as it lifted 'cause it ate up so much of the snow! Then Saturdays sun, warm temp and then heavy rain washed away so much more of the snow including the old snow. I was pleased to see that not only my crocus but shots of the new tulip bulbs were popping up.
This morning I saw and heard a flock of Canadian Geese over head. A sure sign of spring!
![]() My two girls, Krista and Megan along with Krista's BF, Chris are coming out for the day. They will also be at church this morning with us. We haven't seen Chris for quite awhile. He was at his parents for Christmas but planned to come out New Years. But New Years brought a big snow storm so we missed out on his visit at that time.
We will still probably get some snow but surely it won't last long and I will once again be able to get out into my garden. Yesterday afternoon was spent working at my dad's income tax. One down just two more to go and that job will be done for another year.
Hope you are having a great day no matter what the weather brings to your neck of the woods.
