May 28 What type of human are you?I "stole" this from Meg's Garden:Your Score: Goody Two Shoes You scored 78% Do Gooder, 57% Drive, and 75% Intellect!
Aw, don't be hurt by that. You're a good person...very nice and helpful to others, always lending a hand. Always, always offering to lend a hand, even perhaps when it's not called for. Oh, and is that your raised hand in the air again? Why not let someone else answer next time? But seriously, there should probably be more people like you in the world. Super-smart, driven, and warm-hearted. There would be many less problems in the world if there were more like you, and you should be proud of that. Just don't forget a little 'me' time now and then, you deserve it.
May 26 Saturday![]() Finally we have some nice weather. As of yesterday afternoon I could get away with a light jacket and even just a T-shirt. Is it safe to put away my winter jacket yet? The rain has brought many of my tulips blooming, I even have some red ones yeah! For the last few weeks I have been stopping off once or twice a week on my way home from my job at the church at the graveyard. At just 15 minutes at a time I have finally got the bed wed on my mother's grave. I know I have got all the roots of the couch grass 'cause I had to work around the lily of the valley that is up on it. But it sure looks a lot better.
When Paul gets up I am going to help him for a few hours to hopefully finish the cleaning at L & W's house. They get home this afternoon from New Hampshire. Paul has worn himself out trying to get it ready for them. The reason it is so bad is that they had wood floors put in this winter in most of the downstairs. The wood is reddish and so a red dust was over everything. L & W are only here for a week this trip so they didn't want to spend the whole week cleaning, it is their vacation. I was over a few hours this week on my days off but still took time to work on my painting. I think I just have a bit more work to get the "sun-light" painted on the gate, the trees etc. I think are done. Hopefully I'll have another painting to post within the next day or so.
I don't know if I'll get my own house cleaned or not...it was a toss up ...cleaning the house or blogging with my friends. Blogging won!
Tomorrow will be the first time since last summer excluding Christmas and Easter (which we had to have on a Monday due to the Easter morning snowstorm!) that I have been able to just sit back in church and enjoy the sermon! No Sunday School 'til September! Some day I'll have to get to the church to clean up my mess. I have a big fishing net with "fish" in it hanging from the ceiling of the hall. We don't have classroom's in this church just curtains to divide the classes. We are in the process of preparing to build a new church. In two years I should have my own enclosed room with a door and real walls to put up posters etc. Right now I am pinning pictures on the curtains!
Hope your weekend is off to a great start and the weather co-operates with your plans!
May 22 Tuesday
Paul had to take our elderly friend to town for an ultrasound at the hospital. He had to be in for 8 this morning. Machon is now living in a seniors home so Paul had to leave extra early to pick him up like 7 am. Paul is not a morning person, but I am so this gave me lots of "me" time this morning. I had all my housework and calls I needed to make by nine a.m. This gave me the rest of the morning to blog-walk and it isn't even noon yet! This afternoon when Paul gets home we are going over to L&W's to try to finish cleaning before our friends get home from N.H. on Friday. They had some renovating done to their house again this winter so the house has been really dusty. (New wood floors) I am going to clean the upstairs which won't be as bad as the living-room was. Paul has some painting left to do in the main floor bathroom. Paul promised he'd get their lawn mowed before they get home but it has been so wet that it can't be done, that doesn't stop the grass from growing. Our own lawn is out of control too! It has been cold and wet but at least no more surprise snow falls. (Though I did hear there was a few wet flurries early this morning) Some of my tulips are in bloom! Just the yellow ones so far but the others should be blooming soon. It will be so nice to get out and garden maybe next week if the weather improves. The sermon went over well as did the rest of the service. I was told that "I missed my calling". I had thought of being a minister at one time and again when I was 40 but a lot of people don't realize that a minister does more than preach on Sunday's and the time it takes to prepare a service/sermon. I don't think I could do funerals . Maybe it's because I care for people so much that I get too emotionally involved that I wouldn't be helpful. Who would want a minister that didn't do funerals?
(Copyright Gospel Communications International, Inc - www.reverendfun.com) Anyway as it turned out I "minister" by teaching Sunday School and try to be a friend to all. And I have so many more friends since I started blogging! Thanks for all of you for letting me call you "friend". Hope your week is going well!
May 19 Saturday nightKrista came for supper and the evening but Paul & her went to cards so Homer and I are home alone tonight.
I finished my sermon for tomorrow, I got it down to 6 minutes, with over 20 kids at church for our closing I don't want to bore them to long, and the service will be long enough since we will be passing out all the certificates to kids and teachers. The ones passing going into grade three also get a Bible. Next year "the Twins" move on to the next class along with all but two of my class but four new ones will be coming into my class, so I think that will be six. I think I'll have three boys I only had one the last couple years. It maybe an interesting class next year.
This morning before it started to rain I got a couple of flower beds edged, I figure even if I just get a bit done at a time it will eventually get done. The snow didn't last the day. The grass didn't suffer, it is ready to mow but the forecast calls for rain until about Wednesday. After the surprise of snow I don't mind the rain!
This afternoon I did a fair bit of painting. It's coming along pretty good finally. A few more spells at it then some detail work and I should be done.
I read over the sermon this evening to make sure it makes sense. I read it to Krista when she was out earlier this week and she understood what I was saying and didn't think it was too long or boring so I guess it will pass.
Well while it is quite I think I'll go read for awhile before heading off to bed. As much as I like teaching I am glad to have this break until September, the kids I think were getting bored too they were not listening or behaving the last couple weeks. Now I won't have any lesson to plan through the week...yeah!
Hope you are enjoying your Saturday evening and have a lovely Sunday in your corner!
![]() May 17 Snow....May 17th?????I woke up to wet snow this morning! Check out the pictures below. Yuk!
I told you it was cold....now do you believe me? May 15 Tuesday![]() Our weather has turned cool again. It has been in the single digits since (or under 50'F) since Saturday. But that didn't stop the hummingbirds arrival yesterday. At noon we first spotted him at our feeder. . I was washing it out to get it ready and just happened the way I dropped it the plastic cracked open.
That's not all I broke last week. I was a real klutz, within a 10 minutes period I broke two phones on Saturday! The first phone, in the kitchen, I tripped over the phone cord and it went flying on the floor. This isn't new for me but this time it wouldn't work. I opened it up and a part was broke off also all the numbers went flying all over the place. So I thought I'd move the cordless into the kitchen. Instead of useing the adapter that belonged to it I was lazy and just plugged it into the other one. Immediatley it began to smoke! Now it didn't work. We had a super old one in the basement so I brought that up to use until we got a new one. *99 wouldn't even work on it, that's how old it is. I sure missed the call display too. So after the phone not ringing all evening I went to check it and here the ringer was turned off. Megan was away but I borrowed her phone and sure enough we missed a couple of calls. Yesterday Paul had a doctors appointment in town (someone asked a bit ago how far "town" was it's about an hours drive) He got a new one that includes it's own cordless. The whole thing cost less than the "old" cordless. He also picked up the second hummingbird feeder at the same time. So we have one at the kitchen window and one now in the living-room window.
Krista came out last night, she will be staying for a few days. She was working on the weekend so didn't get to spend time with me for Mother's Day.
I spent all but my couple hours work in the morning working at the sermon due this Sunday. I only planned about 5 minutes or so but I think it is more like 10. I don't want it too long 'cause it will be our Sunday School closing during the service. All the kids and teachers will be given certificates so that will take a while.
Well I guess that is all the news. I really got to get some cleaning done around here. I'd love to get in the garden and/or paint also. Besides that I have to practice/edit the sermon. Glad I got the cold over with last week instead of this week.
May 11 It's FRIDAY!![]() Well I am so glad the worse of that cold is over! Tuesday and Wednesday were the worse. Wednesday night I said to Paul "If I am worse tomorrow put me in the hospital." At least I have only been working part time and won't be starting work at the winery until June. Tuesday I was off, Wednesday I stayed home in the morning 'cause I home-care to elderly brothers and didn't want them to get it, also I was feeling too miserable to cook and clean that morning.
I did work Wednesday at the church but that is alone just sitting at a computer. Though I guess my mind was quite fuzzy. When I had finished typing Sundays bulletin and some other stuff that needed to be done I thought I'd be smart and get ahead start on the next bulletin. I was doing really well...when I stopped to spell check I looked at the date...I had typed all over May 13th! I hadn't finished saving it so I was able to restore the original bulletin. But by then it was 5 and I wasn't ahead at all. That's what I get for having too many windows open at the same time.
Yesterday I was feeling much better. I got some of the bottom cupboards cleaned, I think this is the first time since we painted the cupboards. Now this sounds like a big job but I did this sitting on the floor. After an hours nap in the afternoon, since I hated to waste such nice weather by staying inside I did a bit of gardening pulling and digging up coutch grass (again sitting on my butt!)
It has been so nice all week not to have to wear winter clothes, I thought it would never warm up, but finally it is light jacket/T-shirt weather. Paul has taken to shorts but I don't find it quite that warm yet.
![]() I am so excited that the hummingbirds will be arriving any day! I had two feeders but as I was cleaning them last week I dropped one and the plastic cracked. I did fill and put up the window one though. If I don't have a feeder ready when they come they may head elsewhere and it's hard to get them to come back. One year I wasn't ready...I was sitting at the kitchen table when a humming bird came early in May...it just hovered right where the feeder was the year before for quite a few seconds before leaving. This little fellow (yes fellow the guys come first then about a week later the gals move in) flew all the way from the sunny south to the exact spot it was feeding at the year before. I wish my memory was that good! I have enough trouble finding something I saw just the day before!
I hope you have a great weekend in your corner of the world...
May 08 Bye, bye piano.![]() So after a week of depriving myself of hugs & kisses from my dear but sick husband I still get the flu. I hate colds.
Anyway it is going to be warm and sunny all week! So that is great.
My son and his wife came over (from Cape Breton, NS) yesterday. They borrowed Adina's fathers truck and are taking the piano with them today.
I got this piano for my 12th birthday. I don't know why my mom would buy it for a kid who just said they wanted one. We didn't have much money then either. Dad was in the air-force and Mom was a stay at home mom. I had a few lessons, but as I got older I found my short fingers were not much good for playing chords. We lived in a few apartments after that and it was either in storage or I couldn't play 'cause it would disturb the tenants in the other apartments. In '69 Dad retired and we move to PEI and built a house. I was promised that when I got my own home I could take it. So in '78 it was moved to my house. Now I had the piano at my place but couldn't play it...when anyone was sleeping, talking, or watching T.V. (I wasn't very good) I do remember once when the power was off the kids let me play. Other than that it was used only for practicing a piece I was singing in church or if I was alone at home.
I told Chad and Adina that if they got me a keyboard they could have it. With only three bedrooms (other than Megan's in the basement) we really don't have room. One bedroom is ours, one I fixed up as my studio/treadmill room. The other has a futon for guests and once it is pulled out it just doesn't leave much room with the piano there. The computer takes the space in the living room that the piano once occupied.
Now I with it going this morning I will be happy to have more room (I already have a colour picked out to paint the room) Adina will be happy, and the piano will be happy that it can finally make the beautiful music it was"born" to make.
![]() May 05 Saturday![]() Just "checking In..." I don't know where the week went! I know I've been a little more busy with some extra jobs this week.
I also finally started another painting...not sure how it's coming...I'm just painting as I feel the colours and shadows. Just trying something different...it will or it won't turn out.
Also am fighting a cold...not my cold...Paul's cold...I'm fighting to avoid getting his cold. For an addicted nail biter this has taken a lot of concentration! So far so good...knock on wood.
I'm ashamed to admit I haven't even blog walked all week! I will try to get around to all of you soon! Sorry...
![]() Take care...and as Red Skelton always said..."Good night & God bless". |
