June 27 Friday & Krista's wisdom teeth surgery![]() Just and ordinary week. Got out in the garden whenever I could, still behind in the housework...ha-ha. Last night and this morning we are getting some much needed rain. I work all day so I'm not missing out in gardening. Yesterday morning I topped off my rock garden with compost. The rocks were getting so exposed over the years. Megan even said it looks good now. In the afternoon I went to clean at my brother-in-laws. Paul and a neighbour went to play golf and took the car. I needed the exercise so walked to his house. It's a 20 minute walk and another 20 back home. It was overcast so that kept it cool. When I got home I had another 1/2 hour just picking up after Alya & Tito had the run of the house all afternoon. Tito was on the kitchen table, Ayla's dish was broke and even a piece was up on the couch. Mats were all over the place but where they are supposed to be. Have eaten cough drops and wrappers were scattered. I haven't got my house kitten/puppy proofed enough I guess!
![]() Krista will be out sometime today for the weekend. She is having surgery to have her wisdom teeth extracted today. Her boyfriend will bring her out as she can't be left alone for 48 hours. Mommy and Daddy will pamper her and blend up some food and cook some soft foods so she can eat.
I'll have a bunch of signs to make for Canada Day (Tuesday) so that will keep me in the house close to Krista.
![]() June 22 Sunny Sunday...another gardening day?![]() For those who are wondering whatever did I do last Thursday given all the options: After vacuuming, emptying the dishwasher and hanging out the laundry...I gardened all day!
Actually I was so into the gardening in the afternoon I forgot 'til my BIL stopped by that I was supposed to clean for him. Tuesday is my regular day but we went to town and I said I'd do it Thursday instead...oops!
Friday was a regular work day but since it was nice when I got home and no one was around I changed and went out in the yard, again to garden.
It was going to rain with thundershowers in the afternoon. I planned my day around the weather. I would garden in the morning...blog and clean the house in the afternoon. So at 6:30 I was outside in my gardening clothes to get done what I would before the rain came.
I got the pile of compost that my neighbour and I got last Saturday and the "Waste Watch Management Centre" aka dump all cleaned up and now happy flower beds. It was great exercise shoveling and pushing 11 wheel barrows full of compost and the beds look so nice. I had to stop a few times to cleaning out weeds or transplant a hosta at one point.
![]() The birds I feed in the winter missed some seed, well actually quite a few seeds. Some planters that were left under/around the feeds had lots of sunflower seedling. I had saved some of them when Paul was putting in his annuals in the planters. I transplanted these in some vacant spots. Won't know 'til they grow what kind or size they are. I dug up the remains of a host along the back fence and took to my neighbours for her new bed. The bed along the fence has been so invaded by goutweed that I've removed any plants worth saving carefully shaking off all the soil and removing any (visible) traces of goutweed. I have the gravel areas around the basement door and side door free of weeds and more sunflowers.
I did manage to get Homer bathed. It was so much easier now that we gave him his summer hair cut. It was over a month ago since I cut it so after he was smelling so nice I gave him a trim as the weather is beginning to turn warm.
Yeah, I know, where is yesterday's blog you ask? Well the weather didn't turn out as predicted. Not until supper time was thunder heard in the distance and it was after 7 p.m. before the first raindrop fell. My house shows it too, not a thing done. Oh well, it will keep
After being awake since 5 am and gardening all day I was looking forward to some reading and blog/blog-walking. But I was overcome with a sudden desire to just make and early bedtime. My lights were out (but not the sun!) by 9 pm.! I was bushed but feeling great as I accomplished all on my gardening list. ( nothing was stroked off on my inside list). This morning ...since I love gardening so much...started a new list...LOL.
Hope your have a great Sunday in your corner of the world!
June 19 Thursday...an iffy day...![]() Here we go again. Weather seems to predominate our blogs. It definitely determines what we can and can't do most of the time. So many of you are experiencing floods, rain, heat waves, high winds with the threat of tornadoes. Our temperatures are supposed to climb by the weekend to more seasonal temps. Last week was just cold, windy and wet. Not very tempting for gardening though I did get some in.
It is still early in the morning, 6:30. The skies are over cast and looks like it could rain or just stay cloudy. Not sure yet where today is going to take me. The woman who I'm to sub for the mail route may call me in today. If so this will be my first day. She's waiting on word on when her mom has to have some test. She had two mini-strokes the other day. It could be anytime or maybe days yet.
IF I don't have to do the mail this morning and IF it doesn't rain, we may go golfing with our neighbours. I have only golfed a couple times and all but once it rained. I don't look forward to golfing in the rain again, nor walking the course in wet feet.
![]() IF I don't deliver the mail, nor golf I have a lot of other choices: garden, clean the house, wash down the walls in the spare room to get ready to paint. The house on the main floor and in the basement all need some major de-cluttering. And of course all my hobbies: painting, bottle cap pin cushions, blog-walking, reading....
![]() I finished the 5th and last written book in the "Earth Children's" series so I won't be reading unless I get into a book my daughter-in-law left behind for me, "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne. If you learn "the secret" you are supposed to be able to acquire all you want in life. I'm doubtful but my son and DIL believe in it and encouraged me to read it.
Paul took the stitches out of my finger yesterday. It's still numb around the cut but I guess that will come with time. Just another scar to tell my grand-kids stories about, ha ha.
Well I still have a bit of time before any plans can be made so I should get some much needed exercising in to get rid of some more belly fat!
![]() ![]() June 15 Happy Father's Day Dad!![]() I am beginning to be envious of those of you that are having such hot weather. It wasn't to bad here for a week or so, the temperatures were comfortable and the sun was shinning, perfect for yard and garden work. Yesterday and today it is cold, wet and cloudy. So cold I had to turn up the heat in the afternoon and had to take out the comforter to add to the bed clothes last night! The temperatures have hovered around 10'C (50'F).
Yesterday morning a neighbour with a 3/4 ton truck was heading to get some free compost at the disposal site and wanted to know if we wanted some. Paul would be busy all day with a church supper so I went with him. We got two loads. A pay loader filled us up but we had to shovel it all out by hand. Some went to him, some for us and some to his step-daughter. By the time the two of us were finishing the second load we were getting pretty tired. I figured this would count as a good work out for the day!
Since it wasn't gardening weather I quickly tidied up the house than most of the day was spent reading much of the last remaining book in the "Earth Children's" series "Shelter's of Stone" (Jean Auel is currently working on the last book but each one was years apart!) Ayla, my kitten, got her name from the heroine of the series. I would have blogged/blog walked yesterday but had to clean things up as it was so slow and froze up constantly.
After church we are taking Dad out to dinner in Montague to honour him on this Father's Day.
( I upload a new album of my garden's taken this past week. Not much in bloom here. I hope to post on occasion as the garden progresses during the summer, it will also help me to remember what is where for next year)
![]() Born March 5, 1919 and still kicking!
This is the latest picture of Dad taken when Chad & Adina were visiting this month. He is my hero. At 89 he eats healthier that me and walks 4-5 times a week for about an hour each time. Men younger than him can't keep up. Since the kids are older he has opened up to tell lots of war stories and other funny things that he worked at or did through the years. For his 85th birthday he got a computer and has great chats with his family through MSN. When he can't walk due to bad weather he will be found on his treadmill. He still mows his own grass and is an avid gardener. He loves his gadgets! He keeps and on going grocery list, appointments on his voice recorder.
I love you Dad. Happy Father's Day! Love from your baby girl!
June 10 booboo...result...two stitches on my finger
Do you ever do a simple thing that turns out so wrong that you feel stupid? Well I did just that yesterday. I was up at my dad's. I was going to clean his window. All we had to do was take out the screens then I would be all set. One wrong move...one really stupid move...and the window came crashing down. My finger got jambed under it in the process! OUCH!...double, triple ouch! Once Dad helped me get the window up at first glance I thought I really smashed it or cut it off...there was so much blood and pain. After it stopped bleeding we debated whether to go to the hospital or not. I decided not. But after I got home and Megan and Paul had a look at it Megan took me down. I was lucky as there was only one other in emergency at the time. Because it was a crushing injury they wanted to x-ray it. By the time I got back the waiting room was filled. But we only had to wait less then an hour before I saw the doctor. He froze it first...those needles sure hurt...then put in two stitches and bandaged it up. It was pretty sore when the freezing came out...not too bad this morning. It's my pointing finger on my left hand. So it could have been worse...it's not chopped off nor broke and it's on my left hand not right. It's going to take some extra effort though performing simple tasks. I'll be fine but hate when something so stupid happens to upset my day. The first worry was ...." this better not interfere with my gardening" LOL! Now I wonder how I be able to clean Freddie's house this afternoon with one hand. Since I'm able to type this blog with both hands I should be good for my secretary job typing up the bulletin etc. tomorrow. Have a great Tuesday and be careful of those little things like falling windows. June 07 Getting back to normal routine
Now that the weekend is here I can get back on schedule. It was a very mixed up week. Chad & Adina arrived Monday instead of Wednesday and left on Wednesday. I had to shuffle my work week around to spend some time with them. They are now back in Cape Breton before moving out to Chetwold, BC. It was like a zoo here with three dogs and my new kitten Ayla.
All the family, except Chris, Krista's BF, were here to help celebrate Megan's birthday on Tuesday. We had Dad, Krista, Stephen & Megan, Chad & Adina. Freddie gave us a feed of lobster and Chad brought an ice-cream cake from Dairy Queen. We had a feast of lobster and salads along with the cake! Tito & Alya have become great friends. Alya teases Tito until they get into a friendly wrestling match. Tito will be surprised when Alya grows to become Tito's size!
The first call I got to go on the mail route was Wednesday and I felt bad but turned her down as I wanted to spend time with Chad & Adina for there short visit. They may be back next summer or the following Christmas. Thursday morning I did Wednesday afternoon's job and in the afternoon I did my Tuesday afternoon's job. By Friday things were beginning to return to normal. We are supposed to have a nice day. It will be warm by this afternoon at 18'C with some sun and cloud. We won't be getting any heat wave as some of the country are having. We even had to cover up the garden and annuals on Thursday night that Paul got planted as we got frost. The temps were close to freezing, just 4'C. I'm going to try and force myself to get a bit of cleaning done in the house as it got pretty dusty and disorganized from the weeks activities with a full house. When I get outside it will be hard to get me back in! Have a great weekend everyone! June 01 Gardening![]() You just can't trust the weather forecast anymore. I was all set to get the house cleaned, reading, paperwork done....then out of the blue....what was supposed to be a nice rainy day...turned out warm, dry and almost sunny. Drats! So I was forced to grab my gardening basket, shovel and kneeling pad and head out to the yard to transplant and dig weeds all day. Paul also felt inclined to mow the grass and plant the vegetable garden. (He looks after the vegetable garden and baskets/planters of annuals...I do perennials and bushes)
In the afternoon we had a break from this unexpected day and headed out to the site of our future new church. About a dozen or two of us had gathered with bought or found evergreen trees to plant on one side of the property. This separates it from the corn field on the right, there are already trees lined on the left with the village cemetery on the other side. At one time this land was filled with strawberry plants. The lady who has long since retired from the strawberry industry donated two acres of land to us for our new church.
As it was starting to "spit rain" when we were planting we were only "forced" to spend a very short time in the garden before coming inside. Now I was able to sweep the floors, pick up remnants of Ayla & Tito's play times and start the dishwasher. Megan, Stephen & Tito were gone 'til Sunday evening. When Paul left for his Saturday night cards I was left all alone. What to do, what to do? All I could think of was to play with me new kitty Alya, talk to my dog Homer....read the next book in the Earth Children series "Shelters of Stone"....and then finish the evening off with a quiet bubble bath.
