9月29日 Monday![]() Krista & Chris came out yesterday and the four of us went golfing. I haven't golfed very much at all in my life, this I think may have been about the sixth time the second on this course which was early in the summer. Paul has taken up golfing almost every day this summer and has lost a lot of weight and is much trimmer. Krista and Chris golf on occasion, Chris more so since his parents manage a golf course "up west" of the Island. Most of my scores were in the teens except on one whole where I bet them all and made a par! We had fun anyway and went to "Brehauts" for supper on the way home.
Megan, Stephen & Tito moved into their new apartment in town on Friday. Megan still has a few trips to take some remaining stuff. Since she works handy here she'll be able to come by after work and pack up her car. Stephen's dad took the bigger stuff in his van last week. I'm going to move my treadmill down in their room after it's all cleaned up. Hopefully I'll get a scheduled workout organized as gardening and beach-combing days are numbered.
Our church has a new secretary so I won't have to go early before my morning work day to do the bulletin anymore. She begins on Oct. 1st.
Hurricane Kyle didn't amount to anything here, though I think parts of the Island experienced some power outages.
I was able to get some visiting done before church yesterday. I have been having trouble getting into a routine with this new work schedule. Though I love my new job dearly the earlier hour and more work days will take awhile to adjust to. I'll try to drop by during the week to the rest of my dear friends. Hope you have a great week! 9月22日 Yard Sale We had a great day for the 70 mile yard sale. Nice fall temps and lots of sun. Megan, Krista & I started out at 8 am. Lots of stuff to choose from the early part of the day. The girls picked up great bargains in a winter jacket each. Krista was looking for a computer chair. She couldn't find one she liked but got a real bargain, at $35 for a great storage ottoman which will also serve as a coffee table. Megan didn't find a table she liked at the right price but picked up two sturdy chairs for $5 each. They both picked up other stuff too. We had lunch then Megan had to head back to leave for work in the afternoon. Krista took her car, lowered the back seats and we picked up her ottoman then just headed out to more sales. She found some board games in different sites at extreme bargains.
I got:
* a full bag of storage containers for $1.50
* set of 3 cereal containers for $1.00
* total of 4 books: one novel, Kon Tiki (I love this book), a book on the Isle of Skye (my ancestors are from here) and a book on golf techniques for Paul. All cost .50 - $1.00
* a bag of ribbons, appliques, buttons etc for $1 (to use when I make more bottle cap pin cushions)
* an umbrella for .50 (may need it since I now walk to work)
* two cardigan sweaters, a long sleeved T-shirt in white, at at $1 ea. a pair of Isotoner slippers for $2.00and a denim jacket ($4)
* a hand mixer for Paul as his burned out a few days ago. I got a brand new, never opened Black & Decker with spatula attachment for the bargain price of $5
* a bronze cat ornament for .50
* five different squash: even more than that to choose from. Missed out last year as I left this place til last and they had packed up so got there early. four cost a dollar each and a larger one was $2
* I picked up a large glass covered cylinder container to put some of my growing collection of sea-glass in it
Krista and I were getting tired and avoided most of the later sites we passed. They looked pretty well picked over. We were headed back home when we came to a dangerous intersection. It now has rumble strips, and a flashing light but still someone wasn't paying enough attention yesterday. As we approached we saw lots of flashing lights from EMS, ambulance, fire truck and police cars. I guess it just barely happened as we saw someone still in the passenger seat of one car and another car also smashed pretty bad across the road. We were so shocked at this scene so when the police waved us through we went left instead of straight. Krista didn't want to turn back (we were both pretty shaky) so we kept going. I had the map of the yard sale and found a side road we could cut through. This turned out to be a very narrow tree lined dirt road. We did meet one car but was able to pull over far enough. We finally got home. We were going to go sit in the restaurant on the way home for an iced tea but took them home instead.
So other than coming across the accident (can't get any news on the weekend about it) we just came home and crashed.
Well it's a sunny Monday morning and I have to head out to work. Have a great day! 9月20日 2008 - The 11th Annual 70 Mile Yard Sale![]() 2008 - The 11th Annual 70 Mile Yard Sale
Yeah...I'm going yard saleing (if that is actually a word) today. No housecleaning today! The dust balls will just have to compete for space...ha-ha. Of course I'll never get to visit every yard sale site, there will be over 140 sites not counting those who just get on the band wagon without actually registering. This yard sale covers all Southern Kings county. It's held annually every fall. Much more fun snooping around all the stuff looking for that one treasure, (or 2 or 3...) than spending weeks rummaging in your own basement, cleaning and pricing items only to spend 1 or 2 days sitting bored crazy then having all that left over stuff to either cart back into the house or haul to the dump. I'd much rather give or throw away anything I don't want.
![]() Krista is coming out for an early start at 8 am. Megan will be coming too though she has to go to work at noon. Megan is in dire need of a kitchen/dining-room table. Hope we find a good one at a dirt cheap price. I'm prepared with a screw drive in case we can disassemble it and get it into the car. If not we'll put a hold on it and get a truck from someone later to deliver it. She and Steven (& Tito) move into their apartment in town the first of October.
I'll have a fun day with my girls no matter if I come home with treasures or junk. The weather is great it's going to be a warm, sunny fall day.
9月14日 Sunday![]() Well I got most done I planned to do yesterday. The necessary housework was all done before noon. This left me free to go to the beach for a couple hours in the afternoon. Homer & I were the only ones there so we had a great time roaming over rocks and beach. We got home in plenty of time to give Homer his bath. He was pretty good this time getting in the tub though he hates a bath with a passion. Now he is soft and smelling sweet.
Nothing was on TV in the evening I wanted to watch which I used the time to enjoy reading the book I'm into. Still have to check on my "Pure Sea Glass" book before tomorrow when I have to return it.
The Newfies are being to move back to Newfoundland after working in the fishing industry all spring and summer. Our neighbours across the road are leaving this morning so we will make a quick goodbye visit before church. Paul may go golfing again this afternoon. Since the tide and weather are again favourable Homer & I will probably go to the beach again.
This evening I really need Paul to colour my hair, after last weeks cut the silver is really showing. I always thought I wouldn't colour my hair but I let it grow out once and feel too young yet to let it go. My mom at 86, still wasn't completely grey and I thought I'd follow the same path but didn't. So until I feel comfortable going "natural" I'm going to keep colouring it.
Hope you are having a great Sunday. 9月13日 For those in Ike's path![]() Though most of us are ready to enjoy the weekend a dear boggling friend,Cheryl,is hunkered down in Houston while her house is very threatened by Hurricane Ike in Galveston. My thoughts have been with her constantly as she takes on many responsibilities for not only her family but many other people who are in her care.
![]() Well as we all do I'm sure, have lots of plans for the weekend. As the day begins the weekend seems to spread out indefinitely and many plans are made. Of course as we all know from experience that time seems to shrink and by Monday I am lucky to have half of my to do list checked off. As it is today, I plan to resume my exercising that got neglected (but gardening and beach combing were exercise) This I have completed but have to try and work it into my weekly schedule.
Next I have to get the house cleaned and straightened in the least possible time. Homer really needs a bath; I got the book "Pure Sea Glass" by Richard LaMotte at the library just Monday but found out it is due back this coming Monday so will have to give it a going over and copy or take notes. Instead of refilling the hummingbird feeders I'm going to bring them in either today or shortly, clean them out and store away 'til early next May.
Between the high seas last week and my new schedule I am so in withdrawal from my walks on the beach. This afternoon, whether the housework is done or not I AM going to beach-comb for sea glass when the tide is low. It's supposed to rain the morning and be clear this afternoon so that works out great. (Maybe bathing Homer is not a good thing before we go to the beach and gets wet and lays in the sand don't you think?)
![]() Have a great day my friends.
9月11日 Thursday![]() This is short, I only have a few minutes. Work is going great. I had a church meeting last night and passed in my official resignationas church secretary. Got a hair cut yesterday afternoon. It's a bit shorter than I'd like but it will grow...haha. Heading to the shower now to get ready for a full day at the store.
Have a great day!
9月7日 Hanna's renmant passing though today![]() Though I was tired come Friday I enjoyed my work week. Mostly I'm tired 'cause it's "herring season". The same with "lobster season", though I nor my husband are up early fishing I can still hear the boats very early in the morning. In May and June the boats leave about 4 in the morning. Now they are coming in between 3:30 - 4:30. We don't live very close to the wharf but somehow the sounds of their engines come up through the water, up the ground and vibrate, or so it seems...this sounds crazy but I can hear them through my bed/pillow. So I am in and out of a restless sleep from then until 5:30 or 6 when I get up.
I enjoyed my week but the earlier hour has cut back on my computer time and early morning trek on the beach for sea glass. I did get to the beach Thursday evening and had the beach all to myself and did well. Yesterday I tried again but with the approaching remnants of Hanna the surf was too high to go to my regular beach, "Daly's beach". I went to "Guernsey Cove beach" instead. This is the same beach the girls and I camped on for my birthday. With all the rain we got the beach was unrecognizable. The sand was all washed away where we had our tent with large rocks now exposed. I enjoyed myself, though I found very little sea-glass. I walked ankle deep letting the waves roll in and wash up an occasional piece of glass. I was in no danger here as I would have been at the other beach with surf on one side and high embankments on the other. If the tide was very low I might have attempted it but I'm not into risking my life for only a hobby!
Heading to church shortly. We are having a rain warning today with chances of thundershowers. I shouldn't be complaining when I think of those who have been in the path of this seasons hurricanes and with Ike threatening lives and properties and has already killed many people in way.
This picture is a bit gloomy, I'm not depressed like the girl in it, just a bit disappointed that I may not get looking for sea-glass today unless I want to get drenched! (Homer & I got caught in a thunderstorm with sheets of rain coming down last Sunday afternoon, I was never so wet in my life!)
![]() 9月3日 Wednesday![]() So far work is going good. I enjoyed my first day at the store. I have so much to re-learn and learn but I love it. Just trying to figure in my head the quickest, easiest way and time to get the bulletins done for the church since I promised I'd continue volunteering to do them until Christmas.
I had a dentist appointment mid-afternoon yesterday so I took my dinner hour then. I called first to make sure the dentist was on schedule so I wouldn't be waiting around in the office. It was a quick visit as the repair on a broken filling didn't need freezing or much drilling. I was surprised and stopped at the Brehaut's (local and only restaurant) got a sandwich, took it back to the store and had time for a quick lunch at my desk.
I just have to get organized to get to work earlier then I'm used to, 8 am instead of 9:30. This leaves me with less blogging time in the morning but all will work out once I get used to the new schedule.
Hope your week is going well |
